Reds Reward MVP Joey Votto with 3-Year Deal

The Cincinatti Reds were one of baseball’s surprising teams this past season.  No one expected them to go out there every night and contend with the St. Louis Cardinals for the NL Central division title.  Joey Votto was a key factor in the Reds first division title in 15 years.  Because of his contributions offensively and defensively, He was named NL MVP over Carlos Gonzalez and Albert Pujols.  Now that arbitration is apon us, it appears Joey Votto got a huge reward [...]

Nationals Not In Running For Chris Young

Updated January 15th, 8:55AM EST Sources tell MLB.com’s William Ladson that the report saying the Nationals are interested in Chris Young are “not true”.  Earlier this week, it was reported that the Nationals were the other team, besides the Mets, who are interested in Chris Youngs services.  This means the Mets are the lone wolf in the running for Chris Young. Or is there a yet unknown team in the mix that is keeping this marriage from going through? Original Post [...]

A’s Reach 2-Year Agreement With Closer Brian Fuentes

According to several sources the Oakland A’s are close to finalizing a two-year deal with left-handed reliever Brian Fuentes, a source familiar with negotiations confirmed Sunday. Fuentes, 35, is coming off a fine season that produced a 2.81 ERA and 24 games saves. He joins what I believe could be one of the top bullpens in the league this season. A four-time All-Star who led the AL with 48 saves in 2009, there were some rumors that the Mets [...]

2011 Mets: A Risky Proposition

While the Yankees go about their business of building the best bullpen in baseball, and the Royals pluck one of our remaining free agent pitching options out from under our noses, lets turn to a topic that is always near but never dear to a Mets fan’s heart; injuries, or in Mets-speak, “Prevention & Recovery”. Those words were being championed during spring training a year ago by a Mets organization that endured a historic season [...]

Yankees Sign Rafael Soriano To 3-Year Deal

According to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated, the Yankees have agreed to terms with Rafael Soriano on a three-year, $35 million deal. The deal comes as a big surprise because Yankees GM Brian Cashman has been very adamant that he would not give up the team’s first round draft pick to sign Soriano. Soriano had a tremendous season in 2010 finishing with a sterling 1.73 ERA and 0.80 WHIP over 64 appearances as the Rays’ closer last season. He [...]

From Angel Pagan’s Mouth To God’s Ears

Angel Pagan might have been heaven sent over the past two seasons, but now he seems to have his head up in the clouds. According to today’s Daily News, Anthony McCarron reports that the outfielder still believes the Mets can compete with the Phillies for the NL East division title, despite the fact that the Mets have done very little to upgrade the team during the offseason, while the Phillies now have the Four Horsemen [...]
