Mets 40 Man Roster: One For The Ages
The Mets recently made some changes to their 40 Man Roster as they get ready for the Winter Meetings and the Rule 5 Draft which will take place while there in Florida. I decided to break down the roster into age groups to kind of give us an idea of how young or how old our current base of players are. I broke them down into three groups. The list still includes Sean Green and John Maine [...]

Bob Ojeda Getting New Deal from SNY
We all know Bobby Ojeda for two things. One, he was a member of the 1986 World Champion Mets. Two, he has done an excellent job as an analyst for SNY. According to Andrew Fegyveresi, VP of Communications for SNY, Bob Ojeda is getting a new deal from SNY to stay on as an analyst. Thats not all that surprising to me. I’ve watched alot of him during the season and loved to hear him talk about all the [...]

Rangers Sign Yorvit Torrealba To A 2-Year Deal
According to Jeff Wilson of the Star-Telegram, the Texas Rangers have come to an agreement with free agent catcher Yorvit Torrealba. Anthony Andro of the Star-Telegram reported the terms of the contract as a two-year, $6.25MM deal that will pay the catcher $3MM in 2011 and $3.25MM in 2012. Torrealba, 32, hit .271 last season with seven home runs and 37 RBI in 95 games. I thought Torrealba was one of the better catchers available in a [...]

Will Sandy Alderson Fall For Ollie’s Follies?
One of the things I want to see more than anything else this offseason, is at least one addition by subtraction move before the start of Spring Training. I know we’re not going to sign Cliff Lee even though we could desperately use him in our rotation. I know we’re not going to sign Carl Crawford, even though he’d be a significant upgrade over Jason Bay. I have no expectations that we will make any significant [...]

Baseball In New York, Winter Version – With Sandy, Brian And Derek
Baseball has had the headline news in the tabloids over the past couple of weeks in NYC. Yes, it involved both the Yankees and the Mets, but the headlines were not what you’d think. Usually it’s that the Yankees have done something wonderful and the Mets have made another mess – not the case this time. Let’s start with the Mets – briefly. At the end of the season, the Mets swept out the major [...]

Marlins Sign Javier Vazquez To One-Year Deal
Javier Vazquez is returning back to the National League. According to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports, Vazquez has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Marlins, pending a physical. The Marlins were considered favorites to sign Vasquez after he reportedly had lunch with Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez last week in Puerto Rico. The Marlins have made adding a starter a high priority. He went 10-10 with a 5.32 ERA for the Yankees in [...]

Former Met Kaz Matsui Joins Rakuten Eagles of Japan
I thought this was interesting to share. Most of you still remember Kaz Matsui. Since leaving Japan, he’s already moved three times, first to the Mets, then to the Rockies, and finally to the Astros. He finished the 2010 season in the Astros’ minor league system after being waived by them in May, and is now a free agent. If reports are correct, it appears that Matsui will leave MLB and return back to his home country of Japan to play [...]

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, shares some information from one of the Red Sox scouts who has been in the Dominican Republic and has observed Daniel Murphy. The second base experiment with Murphy is a work-in-progress but “heading in the right direction,’’ according to a scout who spent a lot of time watching Murphy in the Dominican the past two weeks. “He’s a good enough athlete where he can pull it off,’’ said the scout, [...]

Daniel Murphy is currently playing in winter ball with the Aguilas Cibaenas, and has been out with the leg injury since last tuesday.
