Jerry DiPoto Seems Like The Right Choice For Mets GM
With Kevin Towers taking over as the new GM of the Arizona Diamondbacks, interim GM Jerry DiPoto has decided not to return to the Diamondbacks organization, opting instead to move on. DiPoto, 42, was a major league reliever for eight seasons, spending two of those seasons with the Mets. His career ended prematurely due to neck and spinal problems. Since his retirement as a player, he has developed a strong reputation as a player and talent evaluator [...]

Morning Grind: Changing Faces, Part 3
Happy Friday, Met Nation. In this 3rd and final installment, we’re talking all things Mets and looking into an off season that may have the league buzzing unlike any other since Pedro came to the Amazins. There is a clear need from player to the front office to make aggressive, sweeping changes. What they will amount to is anybody’s guess but know this: Change is coming and it’s coming soon. I adamantly disagree with some [...]

A Brave New World?
Yesterday John Heyman of SI reported that Stan Kasten resigned as President of the Washington Nationals. Kasten along with John Schuerholz and Bobby Cox were hired by Ted Turner and in the late 80’s began to rebuild the Atlanta Braves, turning it into the franchise which from 1991 to 2005 won an unprecedented 14 consecutive division titles. Officially Kasten stated he’s resigning for “personal reasons” however speculation was growing that he was becoming uneasy with [...]

Game Preview: Mets @ Phillies
The Mets return to Philly tonight into probably the loudest environment they have played in, in a long time. Tonight’s game will feature R.A. Dickey for the Amazins as he tries to push back Blanton and the Phillies. Dickey will attempting to bounce back from his last start where he allowed 4 ER over 6 innings to the Braves as he picked up the loss. In the start before that, Dickey was amazing as he [...]

Mr. Wilpon, Tear Down This Wall.
According to this report by Adam Rubin of ESPN NY, Citi Field, the toughest ballpark in which to hit home runs in the National League is not expected to have any dimension changes or altered wall heights for 2011, according to a source familiar with the plans of New York Mets officials. Before the start of this season, the Mets did make one small modification, shortening the height of the line on the wall in dead center in front [...]

Morning Grind: Changing Faces, Part 2
Good Morning and welcome to the second of our 3 part discussion. Yesterday, David Wright was the main topic and there was much talk and commentary on this as expected. Amazingly, all the folks that wanted to see him traded had no comment on the issue yesterday. Just sayin. With the season all but over, there is an outcry to make “significant” changes, not only to the coaching staff but also to the on field personnel as [...]

Niese Rocked, Mets Lose 7-5
Jonathon Niese was abused in the first inning and that set the tone for the Mets and left them playing from behind for the entirety of the game, losing the series to the Marlins, by losing tonight 7-5. Game Notes Jonathon Niese was horrible in the first inning, giving up five of the six runs he would ultimately allow, including walking one. Niese’s control today was horrible, walking six batters. His best performances of the [...]

Looking Towards 2011, I Like What I See!
So the Mets got mathematically eliminated last night, big deal. I did get to see many positive things to build upon for next season, and I’m choosing to focus on that. In this new series of graphics, I want to highlight some of the players that I believe will have more prominent roles in 2011 and could help pave the way to a better future. Jon Niese, Josh Thole, Bobby Parnell, Lucas Duda, Dillon Gee, [...]

2011 Bench?
2010 pointed out the Mets lack of a solid overall bench, and the mismanagement of some call ups and how they were used is also a major area of concern for me. Jesus Feliciano cannot successfully be the fifth outfielder for the Mets. His lack of pop or any kind of doubles power makes him a decent defensive outfielder. Keeping him on the bench instead of a defensive wizard or a great hitter is stupid. [...]

In Praise Of Jerry Manuel
I write this morning to bring attention to the Mets Manager, Jerry Manuel, a man who has been with the team for only a short time, comparatively speaking, and has always maintained his own persona and has kept the Mets on an even keel under his guidance. Just remember, Jerry doesn’t play the game, he manages – big difference. Recently, the polish, or the patina has worn off some of the Mets baseball hierarchy [...]
