Cliff Lee…The Final Word…Really.
A few weeks ago, before the blogosphere erupted with stories about the Mets trading for either Cliff Lee or Roy Oswalt, I wrote an article here on MMO, The New Mets Ace In The Hole. Since then there have been more Cliff Lee/Roy Oswalt stories than Charlie Sheen has DUI’s. I think Michael Branda (Jessup) said it best in his article, Ranking The Potentially Available Pitchers: “I decided last night that I am officially tired [...]

Doug’s Dugout: Wilpon Could Give Green Light On Lee
In Doug’s Dugout today I talk about interleague play and the tab for Cliff Lee: For anyone who thinks interleague play is for the birds, they never had the Birds of Baltimore on their schedule….or the Indians and Tigers. If the Mets can win the series against the Twins this weekend, after splitting six games with the mighty Yankees, an interleague record of 13-5 an accomplishment. Taking 8-9, and battling back-their identity since May, in last night’s loss against [...]

Change May Not Be A Good Thing For The Mets
There hasn’t been a time where there’s more to talk about since the offseason than right now. Your favorite orange and blue clad warriors are firmly in second place less than a game behind the division leading Bravos. The Mets are hitting (especially situationally) and are providing run support for their starters with more consistency. The starting pitching is doing a great job, alleviating the stress to the bullpen. Dickey, Takahashi, and Big Pelf have [...]

Wrighting The Ship, Mets Win 5-2
David Wright went 2-3 with a HR and two RBI and the Mets behind Mike Pelfrey’s pitching won the first game against the Minnesota Twins, 5-2. Game Recap Mike Pelfrey did not have his best stuff today, but still managed to pitch a quality six innings. Big Pelf gave up two runs on six hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Although Pelfrey did not walk a batter, the patient Twins hitters were fouling off [...]

NL East Report
Atlanta Braves: (42-31; Leader) The Braves were swept by the Chicago White Sox, and will now face the Detroit Tigers. The prime pitching matchup in this series comes on Sunday, with Tommy Hanson vs. Justin Verlander. Philadelphia Phillies: (38-32; -2.5) The Phillies swept the Cleveland Indians, and will stay in Philadelphia to play the Blue Jays, however the Blue Jays will be the home team. Good luck with that. Roy Halladay faces his old teammates [...]

Mr. Never Clutch or Mr. Never Good Enough?
It’s always puzzling to me the way some Mets “fans” treat David Wright. Part of the problem I think has to be Derek Jeter. Jeter has set the bar so high for being the “face of a NY franchise,” that no matter who puts on a Yankees or Mets jersey years from now, they will always be compared to Derek Jeter. The problem with that is overall, Jeter obviously is a great player. What makes [...]

Valentine’s Day On Monday? Not So Fast.
Yesterday, there were several reports circulating that Bobby Valentine was leaving his job at ESPN and had reportedly agreed to a four-year deal with the Florida Marlins. It was further reported that Valentine would debut as the Marlins manager on Monday when the Fish meet the Mets in San Juan, Puerto Rico to open a three-game series. Valentine is expected to replace Fredi Gonzalez who was fired as Marlins manager on Wednesday and replaced by interim manager Edwin Rodriguez. However, the Palm Beach Post [...]

Carlos Beltran Debuts Without A Hitch
How’s that for a sight for sore eyes? Last night, Port St. Lucie natives Larry and Dora Licastri were nice enough to share pictures and give us a great account of each of Carlos Beltran’s plate appearances from his first rehab game in Florida. They are two of the biggest and coolest Mets fans I know, and you can follow Larry on Facebook and see all of his great Mets pics including more of Beltran. Beltran [...]

Tigers Claw Mets For 6 Runs In Loss To Detroit
Mets couldn’t get the sweep against the Tigers as they lose 6-5 despite a late inning rally. Mets fall back to .5 games behind the Braves. Game Summary Hisanori Takahashi started for the Mets and got roughed up by the Tigers early in his worst start of the season. Takahashi, who has had a great string of great starts, had trouble getting outs against Detroit. Some noticeable tactics that he was going for in the [...]
