Pelfrey Should Try Re-Naming His Pitches

Remember in the classic baseball movie Major League 2, when Charlie Sheen’s character, Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn, had the hilarious habit of naming and re-naming each of the pitches in his arsenal? Including the new pitch he was working on that spring? Maybe Mike Pelfrey should consider naming his pitches beginning with his sinker, which I now dub ”The Stinker”. Once again Mike Pelfrey took the mound for his scheduled start, and much like his other four spring [...]

Yes, Another Mets Moments List

Yes here it is….another favorite Mets moments list.  This has been done to death…..but I feel it’s mandatory to read at least one every month to remind all of us why we love our NY Metropolitans.  Also, I will make this one just a tiny bit different. This will consist of some very personal experiences at actual games I attended.  Here we go: July 25, 1987 –  My first game at Shea, ever.  My dad [...]

Sean Green and Bobby Parnell To Buffalo

According to a post from MetsBlog, Adam Rubin, has been told by a major-league source that relievers Sean Green and Bobby Parnell both are expected to open the season at Triple-A Buffalo. We posted on MMO that this would most likely be the case last week, and this would also suggest that both Nelson Figueroa and Hisanori Takahashi will be on the opening day roster a week from Monday, when the Mets take on the Florida Marlins. In the [...]

Jason Bay Loves Pearl Jam

Jason Bay still has that brand-new car smell.. We still haven’t learned how all those cool gizmos and hi-tech gadgets work… All of us are hoping that his acquisition will be the driving force, as the Mets look to put the pedal to the metal and vrooom to the top of the NL East. Steve Serby of the NY Post does a bang-up job in an interview with our biggest offseason acquisition. It turns out Bay is [...]

Gooden Incident, Nothing Unusual

Former Mets/Yankees superstar Dwight Gooden faces a litany of charges after crashing his car, evading the scene, while under the influence, and with a child seated in the back seat, last week. I’m empathetic towards Gooden, but hardly surprised. Gooden has battled demons his entire life, and it’s become more than evident baseball creates an environment where players are conditioned to face a lack of accountability, hampering their professional and personal lives forever. After testing positive [...]

The Best Rotation Available is Yet Unavailable

All offseason we talked about what is best for our beloved Mets. What’s best as far as free agency. What’s best as far as who is managing. What’s best from the GM position. What’s best at each position. And even what’s best from ownership. We all have had our very candid and pointed opinions and we share them like no other fan in the league does. Baseball fans are some of the most knowledgeable and [...]

Will The Real Daniel Murphy Please Crouch Down?

So here we are Met Nation awaiting another season to begin and hoping that our team comes together to replace the pain and hurt of the three previous seasons. When Spring Training began, the Met lineup appeared set; an injury to Carlos Beltran’s knee and Jose Reyes’ thyroid condition had dampened the optimism of even casual fans. But with Reyes’ return, and the awareness that Mr. Beltran may return sooner than the naysayers and pessimistic [...]

MMO Predictions: 2010 Leaders and Award Winners

As we get ready for a brand new season of Major League Baseball, a few of us at MMO put together a list who we believe will be this season’s award winners. It’s something that we’ve been doing every year since 2006. Peering into their crystal balls this year will be Brandyn Cooper, Rob Silverman (Tie Dyed), Michael J. Branda (jessep), Jeff Spencer, Dave Landon (Retire 31), Satish Ram, Greg Pomes and of course myself. [...]

Manuel and Warthen Serve Us Some Figgy Pudding

I found it so laughable and typical that after almost an entire spring training without a peep from Jerry Manuel regarding Nelson Figueroa, Manuel chose yesterdays implosion on the mound from Figgy to reveal his intentions about the 35-year old right-hander. After a near perfect run this spring, you would think that Figueroa might have jeopardized his chances to secure a roster spot after allowing seven runs in 2 2/3 innings against the Marlins on Friday. Figgy called [...]
