The Mets are continuing their effort to create a bullpen.

MLB.com reports that the Mets have claimed veteran right-handed reliever Manny Acosta off waivers from the Atlanta Braves. A person familiar with the workings of the Mets said as much on Tuesday.

The Braves had hoped to reassign Acosta, 28, to their Minor League camp if he had cleared. The Mets are now expected to do the same.

Acosta pitched seven innings in six exhibition game appearances, allowing five runs on six hits.

Acosta pitched 37.1 innings last year with a 4.34 ERA, 45 hits, 18 earned runs, 32 strike outs and 19 walks.
