Johan has confidence in rotation…so should we?
I knew I wanted to write something about the Mets’ starting rotation after reading an article in The Sporting News about the Mets being one of this off-season’s “losers,” citing the fact that they did not address the “gaping holes” in the starting pitching rotation. Well, yeah, but we are likely going to go into the 2010 season with a starting staff of Johan Santana, John Maine, Mike Pelfrey, Ollie Perez and Fernando Nieve. And [...]

Will Wright’s Confidence Lead The Mets To New Heights?
David Wright pulled no punches today when asked to share his thoughts on a variety of issues including the Carlos Beltran surgery fiasco, his role as a leader, last season’s power outage, and the Mets chances in 2010. On his role as a leader: “Each year, you develop more and more as a player and as a leader. With each spring training and each year, I feel more and more confident and capable of being a [...]

Mets Should Sign Josh Blabaromir
Imagine how well situated the Mets would be if they could some how find the resources to sign Josh Bla-Bar-Omir to be their starting catcher for the 2010 season. Signing Josh Blabaromir would do wonders for a fanbase that still thirsts for one more big signing. It could also be the move that finally puts the Mets as the clear favorites, and in a strong position to unseat the defending champion Philadelphia Phillies atop the NL [...]

Reyes Batting Third And Other Astonishing Tales
There was plenty of great chatter yesterday between Jose Reyes and the beat reporters who spoke to him at the Mets spring training complex at St. Lucie. One thing that you immediately notice is how genuinely enthusiastic Reyes is regarding his leg injury which he says is completely behind him now. “I don’t have to be careful about nothing because I’m ready to go,” he said. “If I try to take care of something, that wouldn’t [...]

Mets Offer Rod Barajas Minor League Deal… Really?
Update 9:30 am According to Jon Heyman of SI.com via Twitter, the Mets have offered Barajas a minor league contract. Huh? This makes no sense… Why would Barajas accept a minor league deal? Heyman says he gets low dollars if he makes the team… Not sure what that means exactly, other than the Mets have low-balled him. Do the Mets have any intentions of discontinuing all the embarrassments any time soon? When is enough, enough? [...]

Vintage Mets: 1969 Was A Very Good Year
Here’s a video that recently popped up, and when I saw it I just knew I had to share it with you. It’s the late Lindsey Nelson trying, but not really succeeding, to interview the Mets in the locker room just after they won the 1969 World Series against the Orioles. It’s a real trip watching these guys… I love those original uniforms and it really makes me wish the Mets would stop playing games and [...]

Grand Theft Auto: Best Signings Of The Offseason
As a follow up to yesterday’s “Cash For Clunkers” post, which drew a lot of attention and some good debates, I present to you “Grand Theft Auto”, the biggest steals of this offseason. It was a very strange Hot Stove season that still saw the effects of tough financial times as well as a glut at several positions especially at first base and corner outfield where I found some of the best bargain signings. Mets [...]

Is This The Player Mets Fans Have Been Waiting For?
In a season where major and significant moves are few and a regular season here before you know it, I am inclined to be more “open” to any potential move that will help. If the offseason just started, I probably wouldn’t consider it as priority but now, well you know, it’s wise to consider any help. The rotation is always tantamount to a successful season so Mets fans, I give you….drum roll please……Yuniesky Maya. Now [...]

Time To Step Up – Part 1, Pitching
Pitchers and catchers are arriving in Port St. Lucie, workouts will be starting shortly and soon exhibition games will be played in Florida. The Mets will be trying to erase the 2009 season and focus on winning in 2010. There a lot of question marks coming into the 2010 season for the Mets such as their rotation after Johan Santana, Daniel Murphy’s ability to be a productive 1st baseman both offensively and defensively, Luis Castillo [...]

Pitchers Ready For Spring Training
Mets’ imported arms, Ryota Igarashi and Hisanori Takahashi threw bullpens Monday, within hours of their arrivals. Igarashi is locked into the bullpen since he has a two-year major-league deal. He will be pairing with the over-worked lefty “Perpetual” Pedro Feliciano for the set up job. Takahashi, who spent 10 seasons with the Yomiuri Giants in Japan, is a lefthander on a minor-league contract, trying to get on the roster as the fifth starter—which he feels [...]
