Mets Are Rudderless And Have No Clear Vision
Free agent catcher Bengie Molina has rejected the latest offer from the Mets, according to a tweet by Buster Olney of ESPN. Heard this: Bengie Molina has turned down the Mets’ most recent offer, and the Mets are beginning to focus on Joel Pineiro. Just last week, Jon Morosi of Fox Sports reported that the Mets were “close” to signing Molina it was expected that something was getting done in 3-4 days. The Mets and Molina have [...]

Ben Sheets Is Gaining Interest, Will Throw Today
As most of you already know, Ben Sheets spent the 2009 season recovering from surgery to fix up his torn flexor tendon, but now he seems to be recovering pretty good. A slew of teams will be showing up later today to see Sheets pitch for the first time in almost a year. Then soon after, the bidding will begin for the 31 year-old right hander. Sheets has a lifetime ERA of 3.72 and 1,206 [...]

It Didn’t Take The Mets Long Did It?
It only took the Mets 14 days into the New Year to embarrass themselves and their fans. Of course I’m talking about the whole debacle over Carlos Beltran’s knee surgery. Once again the Mets completely mishandled the news of an injury to a key player on their team. Some that should have been simple has exploded in the face of the Mets… again. Go back to last year and the press conference from hell where [...]

Spring Is In The Air, Training That Is…
According to Brian Costa of The Star-Ledger, the Mets will hold a voluntary minicamp next week as reported via his Twitter account. Mets will hold a voluntary 3-day minicamp next week in Port St. Lucie. Perez, Santana, Niese, Maine, Murphy among those likely to attend. I’m sure there will be even more players on hand, but I’m glad to see the initial list includes just about everyon who ended the season on the disabled list last year. [...]

Mets Need “QUALITY” Versatility
Okay Fans. It’s time to put to bed all the foolishness that has enveloped the Mets this past week. Make no mistake. It is ALL foolishness. We can try to ascertain who is at fault, who was right, who was wrong. Analyze it. Whatever. The bottom line is we’re missing, arguably, our best player for at least 2 to 4 weeks of the regular season, and probably a little longer. (Let’s be hopeful it won’t [...]

Cheaters, Phonies and Fakes
Former Yankees, Cardinals and Giants slugger, Jack Clark, didn’t have any kind words to say about Mark McGwire’s recent admissions that he used steroids and PED’s. “It’s a shame that he thinks we’re all stupid, that he only did steroids because of injuries. That’s such a cop-out, such a lie. These guys did steroids to take the money to pump up their egos and then take their consequences down the road.” Clark made these comments to [...]

Carlos Beltran Aftermath: Looking Ahead
Like the rest of you, I found the news of Carlos Beltran’s surgery earlier this week disturbing. I found the Mets reaction to be disgusting. So being both disturb and disgusted, I took a step back and tried to find something positive we could focus on. First, pitchers and catcher aren’t due to report to Port St. Lucie for another month. This will give manager Jerry Manuel and his coaching staff some time to prepare [...]

Former Met Jose Offerman Punches Umpire
In 2005, Jose Offerman was a Met for about 15 minutes. In 72 at-bats for New York, Offerman hit .250, with one HR and 10 RBI. Since his cup of coffee with the Mets, the 41-year old Offerman has been fighting to get back into the major leagues. Unfortunately, he taken the fighting part a little too literally. After playing 15 years in the major leagues, beginning with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1990 and [...]

Ben Sheets And Show Me The Money
Ben Sheets is by no means the only selfish ballplayer. In fact he’s just one of the vast majority. But I chose to pick on him because his name is so prominent in the news right now, as he tries to find a team to gamble and guarantee him a lot of money. If you don’t know, Ben Sheets has been injury prone for most of his entire career. He has averaged just 18 starts per [...]

Back Off Birdies!
Carlos Delgado is currently playing in the Puerto Rican Winter League and is interested in returning next season. Likewise, the Mets are interested in bringing the slugging first baseman back to New York. Delgado had a good start to the 2009 season with a .298/.393/.521 line. Of course, that was all in a total of 26 games as the 37-year old first baseman underwent season-ending right hip surgery back in May. The Mets are not the only team interested [...]

Mets Sign John Maine And Avoid Arbitration
Anthony DiComo of Mets.com, is reporting that the Mets have agreed to a new contract with John Maine tonight, thus avoiding arbitration with the right-hander. According to the Associated Press the deal is worth $3.3 million guaranteed and Maine can earn an additional $225,000 in performance bonuses based on games started. Maine, 28, went 7-6 with a 4.43 ERA last season, spending much of it on the disabled list after offseason surgery to remove a [...]
