Baywatch Has Been Canceled; What’s Next On The Schedule?

After watching other teams sign free agent after free agent, the Mets finally made some headlines with a signing of their own. There will be no more Baywatch in Flushing as the Mets have signed Jason Bay to be their leftfielder for the next four years, pending the obligatory physical. Seven years after then-Expos GM Omar Minaya traded Jason Bay from Montreal to the Mets, he has brought Bay back to the team that foolishly [...]

The So-Called Vesting Option, And Other Mets Bashing

I’ve literally read over a dozen tweets from different sources in the mainstream media and a dozen more from ordinary bloggers like me regarding the 5th year vesting option that was a part of the 4 year deal the Mets gave Jason Bay. The problem is that there’s a lot of chirping going on about it, almost all of them pounding the Mets for making the vesting option easily attainable. Others are clamoring that it was [...]

Mets On The Verge of Signing Bengie Molina

Just hours after we found out about a deal being in the works to bring Jason Bay to Flushing another significant free agent signing is being reported. ESPN Radio’s Rich Coutinho is reporting that the Mets are close to signing catcher, Bengie Molina, to a two-year deal. Financial terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed. Last season with the San Francisco Giants, the 36 year-old Molina hit .265 with 20 home runs and [...]

Mets Sign Jason Bay To A 4 Year Deal

As first reported on WFAN by Mike Francesa, the Mets have reached agreement on a four-year, $66 million dollar contract with Jason Bay pending a physical. Although Mets officials refused to confirm the agreement, Francesa said that only a physical stands in the way and that the team will hold a press conference making the announcement official early next week. Joel Sherman of the NY Post warns that the “physical might not be a formality”. “There [...]

It’s Been A While

The title of this post works in more than one way. It’s been a while since I have sat down and wrote an article, and it’s been a while since we’ve seen a major move from the Mets. Of course, that hinders on what you consider a major move, but looking at what the opposition has done so far this offseason, it’s not exactly easy to sit back and stay calm. Now I understand the [...]

Where Do They Get Off Questioning Our Loyalty?

Last week Mike Vaccaro post a blog on the New York Post website that you can read right here saying that ticket agents from the Mets are questioning the loyalty of fans who have not yet renewed their season tickets for the 2010 season.  I did get a phone call asking me if I was planning on buying the ticket package, but my loyalty to the team was not questioned by that particular agent, having [...]

A Snapshot Of The Market For Starting Pitchers

Here’s a snapshot of this years free agent market for starting pitchers. I omitted some of the pitchers who quickly re-signed with their teams like Tim Hudson of the Braves, Carl Pavano of the Twins, and Scott Olsen of the Nationals. Of the 29 remaining starters, more than half of them spent time on the disabled list in 2010, and 15 of them started 20 games or less.  Latest Buzz The Texas Rangers are considered to be the [...]

Number Two Starter Or More Of The Same?

When the 2009 season ended for the Mets, the consensus among fans was that number one our priority list was getting a top of the rotation starter. We all breathed a sigh of relief, when Jeff Wilpon and Omar Minaya both indicated the same thing back in October. Since then, we have seen over a half dozen pitchers who could have fit the bill sign with other teams. Those pitchers include Randy Wolf, John Lackey, Roy Halladay and [...]

Will Mets Make A Play For Aroldis Chapman?

In kind of a surprising move last week, although not really, the Florida Marlins jumped into the sweepstakes for Cuban left-handed pitcher Aroldis Chapman. The Marlins reportedly offered the young phenom a five-year deal for $13 million dollars. That averages out to about $2.5 million annually. The Red Sox have reportedly offered a similar five year deal for a little more at $15 million dollars. As the Mets continue signing these risk/reward type players like Kelvim Escobar, Ryota Igarashi, and Clint [...]
