Does Anyone Miss Shea As Much As I Do?

The inaugural season for Citi Field ends in a few weeks and to say the least it was a very disappointing first year for the Mets new ballpark.  At the start of the 2009 season I was hoping that with a new ballpark that had not witness disappointments over the last couple of years the slate would be clean and we could start making new histories for the new ballpark.  Unfortunately for us the memories [...]

How The Internet Has Changed The Game of Baseball

Over the past two decades or so, the Internet has revolutionized the way people live their lives. People are able to reconnect with those old high school buddies from thirty years ago, while browsing their favorite stores all from the palm of their hand simultaneously. More specifically, the Internet has changed the fan’s experience with the world of baseball. In the past, fans had to rely on sporadic television and radio coverage about their team [...]

MetsMerized Player Of The Week! 9/13-9/20

And the season continues to wind down. It’s odd, I remember looking at the Knicks as their season would wind down and my first thought would be “Don’t win! You can’t make the playoffs, get a better draft pick!” Obviously that’s selfish and random, but it’s a thought that crosses the minds of a few fans. The Mets do have a guaranteed protected pick so we’ll see what comes of that. I would prefer they [...]

Jurrjens Schools The Mets; Braves Top Amazins 3-1

Atlanta starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens is fast becoming a Mets killer as he once again dominated the Amazins who fell to the Braves 3-1 last night. In four games against the Mets, the 23-year old Jurrjens is 4-0 with a 1.56 ERA. On the season, he is now 13-10 with a 2.70 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP. Poor Nelson Figueroa was no match for the Braves’ stud right hander. The Mets have lost seven straight games to [...]

A Happy Belated Birthday To Bob Murphy!

I was watching the Met game this past Saturday when Gary Cohen mentioned that it was legendary Met broadcaster Bob Murphy’s birthday. “Murph” would have been 85 years old. Earlier this season I wrote an entry about Ralph Kiner, and how much he meant to Met fans, and I never did a follow up post about Bob Murphy. Simply put, to me and I’m sure many, many Met fans, Murph is the voice of summer. [...]

Cubs Didn’t Look At Milton Bradley’s Intangibles; Lesson Learned

I haven’t really had a lot of nice things to say about the four-year deal the Mets gave Luis Castillo just before the start of the 2008 season. It turns out that he was injured or in pain for most of the season in the first year of that contract, but this year Castillo has made the deal much more palatable after delivering an unexpected solid year at the plate and in the field.  Suddenly, [...]

Jeff Francoeur Is A Keeper

In a move that comes as no surprise to me, the Mets may get their off season started by locking up their new wonder boy, Jeff Francoeur to a three-year deal according to a report by Marty Noble. The Mets believe Francoeur will look sharp in their 2010 uni, so much so that they are inclined to approach him about signing him to a three-year contract that would allow him to become a big league [...]

Why Would A Premier Hitter Want To Play In Citi Field?

I came across an interesting read last week by Kevin Kernan of the NY Post. Kernan begins by pondering what the Mets will do in the draft now that they will have a top first round pick. He even wonders if there’s any chance that super prospect Bryce Harper falls into the Mets lap because teams will be reluctant to the Scott Boras client the $25 million dollar it might take to sign him. Wouldn’t [...]

Wilpons May Get Fan Outrage If They Cut Payroll

Last week, ESPN’s Andrew Marchand posted the following on his Twitter account: An associate of the Wilpons tells me that the only way to get them to spend this offseason is with public pressure and that might not work. Jon Heyman of SI.com also adds this in one of his reports last week: “Reports have suggested the Mets plan to cut from an NL-high $145 million payroll, but even a small reduction might be a tough [...]

Coming Soon To A Theatre Near You: World Champion Mets

It’s safe to say that one of the greatest sports movies of all time is 1984’s ‘The Natural.’ Although the ending may be a bit over the top, it truly succeeds as a story of personal triumph over failure. But imagine for a moment if the story was different. Imagine the movie starting out with Roy Hobbs walking to the plate, hitting a walk off pennant winning HR on the 1st pitch and running the [...]

2010 Spotlight: First Base

The Mets 2009 season is coming to a close with less than 15 games left to play. MMO has decided to take a look around the majors for the Mets possible opportunities during the offseason. Over the next few weeks we will be looking at each individual position including the rotation, bullpen, and other Mets related needs. Its no secret that first base has been mostly a power position. Not only at the plate but also on defense, as first [...]
