Time To Change the Channel

A thought occurred to me last night as the score reached 7-0 Dodgers—I don’t have to watch this crap if I don’t want to.  Not that there’s much on TV besides baseball during the summer except horrible reality shows and re-runs, but I’d rather see anything these days besides watching our Mets get trounced and embarrassed night after night.  So I reached the breaking point, and that breaking point was to reach for the remote.  [...]

At Least ESPN Finds The Mets Entertaining…

Here is a sobering video of the Mets worst plays of the season according to ESPN. I warn you that this is definitely not for the squeamish. Can you believe that this Mets team was predicted to win the World Series by Sports Illustrated? Is it time to think about 2010 yet? A hat tip to Mark for the video link.

Dodge(r) Ball!

According to Minaya earlier today, he is “hope[ful]” that the Mets we have can stay competitive until the myth of the injured come back to rescue us and vault us into first place. The GM has hope? I watched eight innings of tonight’s game—rather foolishly as I think about it now—and I decided that hoping this team will stay competitive is akin to hoping I will earn a million bucks next year. Possible, of course, [...]

News On Reyes and Beltran

David Lennon, the New York Mets beat writer for Newsday on his twitter account has some news on Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes and it’s not good, not at all.  On Reyes, Lennon says: “Reyes back in NYC. Got another cortisone shot. Shut down again for a few days. Not good.” On Beltran the news is not that encouraging either as Lennon says: Beltran only riding bike. No baseball activity. Will be re-evaluated at AS [...]

Leave Jon Niese In AAA, And Call Figgy Up!

According to MiLB.com, Jon Niese was named International League pitcher of the week after compiling a 1-0 record and 1.06 ERA in two starts for the Bisons. Niese, who allowed 10 hits and struck out 14 in 17 innings, has rebounded to go 4-1 in his last six starts with a 1.04 ERA. After a terrible start to his season, Niese has rebounded nicely and has lowered his ERA to a more respectable 4.31 after [...]

Get To Know A Prospect: Ruben Tejada

Ruben Tejada does not get a lot of hype, but there are aspects of him that are very interesting, and one of the most intriguing is his age. I had no idea until recently (this season) that during this baseball season he will turn just 19 years old. I thought he was much older than that. He first played for the Mets in the VESL and then in the Gulf Coast League in 2007 when he [...]

Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda: The Jason Marquis Story

Before the injuries started mounting, before the fielding and mental errors began to grow, the Mets’ front office made another error.  This error happened in the offseason and it was made by Omar Minaya.  The Mets could have acquired Jason Marquis from the Cubs for practically nothing and didn’t pull the trigger. First, as reported by Dan Graziano in the Star-Ledger,  the Mets could have sent much-beleaguered reliever Aaron Heilman to the Cubs for Marquis.  [...]

Still Believin’

The story as I remember it, goes something like this: the 1973 Mets were struggling, they weren’t playing up to their potential, when general manager M. Donald Grant called a team meeting. At the end of the meeting Grant told the Mets “I believe in you guys”, at which point pitcher Tug McGraw yelled out “YA GOTTA BELIEVE!”. We all pretty much know what happened in 1973. The Mets went on to win the NL East, they [...]
