7/14 Minor League Report! ALLEN!

Savannah 2, Kannapolis 0 Kyle Allen and 3 relievers combined on a 3 hit shutout tonight, and Jefry Marte continued his resurgance at the plate with 2 doubles, leading the Gnats to a 2-0 victory. Allen had one of his best games of the season, pitching into the 7th inning for the 2nd time all season (June 14th against Augusta), and matching his longest outing with 6.2 innings of 3 hit shutout ball. At one [...]

F-Mart: Is It Too Soon To Judge?

In July 2005 the New York Mets signed 16 year old Fernando Martinez.  F-Mart was given a signing bonus of $1.4 million and from that point on was labeled as the future of the New York Mets.  Omar Minaya said of F-Mart when he signed that: “What we saw in [Martinez] was a 16-year-old kid with power, great ability and great character, above everything else.” F-Mart was considered to be a “five tool player” meaning [...]

Beltran Concerns, Missing The ’06 Wright, Please Sell The Mets

So here we are on the verge of another mid-summer classic and my poor Mets find themselves 6 1/2 games out of first place with three teams to catch, and that’s the good news. The bad news is that we’re 6 1/2 games back in the wild card race with nine teams to catch. Geez… It’s so easy to point fingers and pick out all the things that went wrong in the first half, but why [...]

Bored With the All Star Game

Tuesday night will be baseball’s annual All Star Game, from Bush Stadium in St. Louis Missouri. St. Louis is a great baseball town, and the Cardinals are one of Major League Baseball’s most historic and great baseball teams. Having said that, I have no interest at all in the All Star Game. This morning I was watching the news on the FOX station here in New York, and the sports anchor referred to the All [...]

First Half – Half Full Or Half Empty?

Nobody could have predicted the first half that the Mets have just completed, after an off season that fueled such high expectations. Sure there were some questions going into the season, but every team has questions, building a team is not an exact science. The Mets’ biggest off-season priority was to revamp the bullpen, and that’s exactly what they did.  Anyway, the injuries to so many key players was too tough to overcome for the [...]

Will Pedro Spell Heartbreak For Mets Fans?

They held the wrap party for “Nightmare on Roosevelt Avenue,” yesterday afternoon, and a good time was had by all. The Mets scored a month’s worth of runs to commemorate the ending of a nightmarish first half of baseball. Broken bodies, coupled with botched pop-ups equaled shattered hopes. Hopefully, now Jason, Freddy Kruger, and all of their twisted pals, can pack up their chain saws, hatchet’s, and other assorted bludgeoning apparatus, and return the bodies [...]

7/13 Minor League Report! TEJADA, HOLT, Beaulac, HARRIS!

Binghamton 14, New Britain 1 Not sure what the bigger story is, the Mets putting a severe beat down on the Rock Cats, or Brad Holt’s 7 shutout innings, but either way, it was a good afternoon for the BMets. The Mets hammered out 16 hits and drew 7 walks en route to dismantling the Rock Cats 14-0, and Brad Holt struck out 7 over 7 shutout innings for his first EL victory. Five players, [...]

Three Strikes And Your Out? Great Idea!

Michael Baron of MetsBlog had an interesting quote from Jerry Manuel in a post this morning regarding the starting rotation. The Mets have setup their rotation for after the break and it will go as follows beginning with the four games against the Atlanta Braves. Oliver Perez on Thursday (Braves) Mike Pelfrey on Friday (Braves) Johan Santana on Saturday (Braves) Fernando Nieve on Sunday (Braves) Livan Hernandez on Monday (Nationals) Jerry Manuel then told reporters that lefthander Jonathan Niese, [...]

MetsMerized Player Of The Week! 7/5-7/12

Good day to everyone! I’m feeling especially great today after watching the depleted Mets win back to back games for the first time in a little while. It’s amazing how two wins, incredibly different in makeup, can change the opinion of a fanbase in a hurry. One win, fueled by the strong pitching of our ace Santana, and another fueled by the Mets offense. Yes folks, the Mets offense does exist. It’s out there. I’m [...]
