Mets Notes – Beltran To DL, Two Bullpen Moves, Bizarre Lineup

Here is a recap of all that has transpired this afternoon. To begin, Carlos Beltran was placed on the disabled list with a right knee injury that the Mets are calling a bone bruise. Beltran, had an MRI on his ailing knee this morning at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, and the Mets expect him to be back after the minimum time on the DL. Omar Minaya said, “The bruise was getting bigger in [...]

According to Adam Rubin, The Mets placed center fielder Carlos Beltran on the 15-day disabled list today with a bone bruise on his right knee. The team called up Fernando Martinez from Class AAA Buffalo today, though he wasn’t expected to be there in time for tonight’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Martinez had been sent down to Buffalo last week.. How frustrating… Omar Minaya said, “The bruise was getting bigger in size and we [...]

Mets Give Javier Valentin and Wily Mo Pena The Boot

According to several sources including Bart Hubbuch of the NY Post, the Buffalo Bisons released outfielder/first baseman Wily Mo Pena and infielder Javier Valentin today. The Mets released two veterans, outfielder Wily Mo Pena and infielder Javier Valentin, from Triple-A Buffalo today while activating newly claimed left-handed reliever Arturo Lopez to the Bisons’ roster. Hendu Misses Shea, Omir Gets It, Church Is Like Kingman

From inside the Mets (and Rays) clubhouses I gleaned several conclusions Saturday: Carlos Beltran is a real gamer (I proposed trading him a month ago because the returning bounty would fill several holes, but I agree with a post who called me “insane” ). He’s hurting right now. (scheduled for a MRI Monday). His knee barks loud when he has to put on the breaks. His diving catch yesterday, that saved two runs, is probably [...]

Looking At Brad Hawpe

How many one-sided trade suggestions are we going to get with this team? Sure, I’d take Holliday, Carlos Lee, Mark DeRosa or Jermaine Dye. There aren’t a lot of people who wouldn’t. But we don’t have too much to offer back. So maybe it’s time we look at things in a different light. I propose we trade Ryan Church, in a deal for Brad Hawpe. First off, I understand that it’s a weird thought and [...]

Bullpen Running Out Of Gas, Elmer Dessens Can Help

The Mets bullpen got off to a great start and quickly staked its claim as the best in the National League after an off-season overhaul. But as the season wore on, and the bullpen innings continued to mount, we began to see some cracks as May came to an end. Jerry Manuel was quick to take the blame for his ineffective bullpen lately, but there’s more to it than that. “What I need to do [...]

Poll Results: Mets Biggest Concern

Poll Question:What Concerns You Most About The Mets Right Now?   Despite the amazing turnout at the poll for this question (734 votes), the results are extremely too close for my taste. The majority of voters (247 34%) believe that the Mets’ biggest concern is starting pitching, and of course that would make sense especially with uncertainty over Maine and Perez . An alarming 25% or 183 of MMO poll takers, believe that Jerry Manuel is a [...]

DL Notes: Maine, Perez

John Maine will throw a rehab start this week, with the goal of returning next weekend. If Maine’s rehab start goes well, then he will take Tim Redding’s start on Saturday against the Yankees, with Redding moved to long relief. Our other injured starter, Oliver Perez will begin a rehab assignment Monday in Port St. Lucie, and the possibility has been raised of Ollie returning to the bullpen before he is trusted with starting again. [...]

Mets Are In A Catchy Situation

If you were paying attention during the fourth inning of today’s Mets broadcast, you would have learned that the Mets catchers lead the National League with 45 runs batted in. Wow, really? Omir Santos leads the pack with 22, followed by Ramon Castro who knocked in 13 runners before being traded, and Brian Schneider is holding up the rear with 10 ribbies. Santos is seventh in the league, but when you take a closer look it gets [...]

Some Father’s Day Odds And Ends

As we reach another Father’s Day, let’s take a break from discussing the lack of run support for Johan Santana and the Three Fernandos breakup tour to reflect on a special man in our lives.  He is the man who more than likely showed us how to throw our first curveball, took us to our first ballgame and showed us the proper way to order a ballpark hot dog (which I seem to have forgotten [...]
