Citi Field – Where Homeruns Go To Die
I read an interesting article on ESPN by Tristan Cockcroft entitled Shea It Isn’t. The piece is well written and well researched and is a fair comparison of the two parks. One of the interesting parts of his article was the following chart which shows exactly which non-homers would have been homeruns at Shea Stadium. Hitter Team Date Pitcher Team Result J.J. Hardy MIL 4/18 Johan Santana NYM Fly out Justin Maxwell WAS 4/25 Brian Stokes [...]

NL East Report
Atlanta Braves: (4-6; -5) The Braves lost two of there to the Boston Red Sox, and now begin a three game home series against the Philadelphia Phillies. Lowe vs. Blanton on Tuesday. Also, outfielder Jordan Schafer might be drawing interest from the Washington Nationals, but we’ll get back to that. Florida Marlins: (6-4;-3) Interestingly enough, the Marlins are the only NL East team above .500 in their last 10 games. They were, however, swept by [...]

Trade To Consider: Tony Clark
The Mets are in a serious need of power. Due to injuries, we have only two proven home run hitters (Sheffield & Wright) in the lineup – one of which is not really hitting homeruns. Citi Field is playing a significant part in our lack power – but I believe hitting for power is important to be a contender. We are 25th in the league in slugging percentage, and if it wasn’t for the fact [...]

MetsMerized Player Of The Week! 6/21-6/28
Alright, so I was going to say “I hope everyone’s having a good day”, but watching K-rod walk Mariano last night has sucked the life out of me. I wasn’t favoring the umpire’s strike zone last night, or the ESPN announcers…but that’s not what I’m writing about. I do hope everyone’s having a good day, and I hope you’ll enjoy keeping track of this. The MetsMerized Player of the Week is an old feature that [...]

Are The Mets An Embarrassing Team?
As everybody knows by now the Mets were just swept by are hated rivals, the Yankees. I was embarrassed to be a Met fan this past weekend. I wasn’t embarrassed because of the lack of offense. I was embarrassed because of their lack of fundamentals. In the opening game of the series the Mets had three errors. Now three errors in a game is bad, but they had three errors in one inning! I mean [...]

Here’s Some Doom to Go with Your Gloom
That’s right, I’m not in a positive frame of mind. Yeah, something about looking like a sack of crap when playing the Skankees will do this to me. I just cannot let the last three games go, and I really was feeling like we might be able to muddle through until after the All-Star Break. Now, I feel chances are good to excellent that in an NL of mostly very mediocre teams we’re going to [...]

Oliver Perez started for the Class-A (short season) Brooklyn Cyclones today and beat the Hudson Valley Renegades Perez allowed no runs on two hits in five innings pitched. He walked one batter and struck out six while throwing 72 pitches. Mark DeRosa To The Cardinals For A Relief Prospect
I guess this is a great example of that old adage, “the rich get richer and the poor get poorer”. The Cleveland Indians have traded infielder Mark DeRosa to the St. Louis Cardinals for reliever Chris Perez and a player to be named later. DeRosa was hitting .270 with 13 homers and 50 RBIs this season while playing several infield positions and outfield. DeRosa goes from the Indians, who have the worst record in the American [...]

These Mets Are Not “Loveable Losers”
The Mets go into tonight’s nationally broadcast game having already lost the season series to the Yankees. With Livan Hernandez taking on Chien-Ming Wang, we should have a chance. Key word: should. With the recent luck of this team, we will probably embarrass ourselves while making Wang look like Cy Young. The Mets are coasting by, hoping that the Phillies will continue to lose and making every game a “don’t have to win but it [...]
