Mets vs Orioles – Lineup, Sheffield, A Tiny Rant, And Some Thanks

The Mets get set to rebound from a pretty bad week of baseball tonight, when they take on the Baltimore Orioles. Mike Pelfrey (4-2, 4.68 ERA) Pelfrey was locked in for the first six innings against the Phillies on Wednesday, allowing two hits and one run. Things unraveled in the seventh, though; he surrendered three hits before being removed. All three runners scored, eliminating Pelfrey’s chance for a fifth win. Now, Pelfrey makes his first [...]

When The Orioles Were Good

To a lot of fans who are new to baseball, the Baltimore Orioles are known as a team that plays in a pretty cool looking park, but always finishes in the second half the American League’s Eastern Division. It wasn’t always that way. Back in the middle 1970′s when I first started getting into baseball, I mean really into baseball, recognizing that there were other teams than the Mets and Yankees, it seemed that the [...]

Injuries Are Not The Only Thing Wrong With This Club

Ryan Church will never be more than a marginal player for the following reasons: His swing is too long; it starts in Flushing and ends in Corona. Number Two: He has a low baseball IQ. Case in point, during a tilt of the Subway Series, and a runner in scoring position with one out, he attempts to bunt. With a short porch at the end of a jet stream staring him in the grill. Ouch! [...]

Mets Find Themselves In A Real Trade Dilemma

Today I want to take a not so in-depth look at where the Mets stand in terms of making a deal. I keep reading and hearing all these different trade rumors that are making less and less sense as we move closer to the trade deadline. All I hear is that we need to get Matt Holliday or Jermaine Dye or Carlos Lee or Roy Halladay, the list is endless. And while I’m the first one to [...]

The Mets Should Learn From K-Rod Example!

In 2006, the year the Mets ran away with the National League Eastern division they had a certain attitude.  There was a swagger that team had.  They were aggressive and teams hated facing them.  In 2007 the swagger and attitude disappeared.  Instead of team’s hating to face the Mets they were making fun of them.  Jimmy Rollins started the spring training tradition declaring the Phillies the team to beat even though the Mets finished 12 [...]

June 15, 1983: The Magic Is Back

Before I begin, I’d like to thank my colleague, Rob (Tie Dyed) for writing an exceptional piece on Tom Seaver and for inspiring me to write this blog.  I’d like to consider it a companion piece to his blog.  Thanks, Rob! June 15.  It’s a date that many Mets fans will remember as the day the Franchise was traded to the Cincinnati Reds.  Tom Seaver’s trade was the beginning of a dark time for the [...]

Video: Tom Seaver Talks About Being Traded To Reds

Earlier today, Rob (aka Tie Dyed) penned a great piece that looked back on that ill-fated day when the Mets traded “The Franchise” Tom Seaver to the Cincinnati Reds. Here is some video where Mike Douglas interviews Tom Seaver and they discuss that trade and the events that led up to it. Enjoy this vintage video…

Super-prospect, Bryce Harper Skips High School

16-year old super-prospect Bryce Harper, who was referred to in Sports Illustrated as “The Kobe Bryant of Baseball,” will skip the final two years at Las Vegas High School to enroll in Community College this year. Doing so would enable Mr. Harper to enter the draft in June 2010, making him the likely number 1 overall pick. Harper is 6’3″ 205 lbs. (and still growing), and hit a 503-foot HR at Tropicana Field in Tampa [...]
