Mets Want To Erase Doc Gooden

The Mets simply do not get it. After all the uproar in the media about how Citi Field seems more like a fitting tribute to the Brooklyn Dodgers as opposed to the New York Mets, the front office had an opportunity to alleviate some of those concerns and chose not to. George Willis of the NY Post explains: WHEN Dwight “Doc” Gooden attended the Mets’ Opening Day ceremonies at Citi Field last week, he stopped [...]

Relax. Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day.

We all need to take a deep breath, relax and step back for a moment. The season is two weeks old and already it appears many fans have given up on our Mets. Yes, this season has been frustrating so far. Yes, this team has failed to get the big hit when needed. We have carried over some of our bad habits from the last 2 heartbreaking seasons. We are still failing to come through [...]

What The Heck Was That All About?

Talk about your classic head scratchers. I would have loved to be a fly in the room when Omar and his brain-trust made the decision to DFA Darren O’Day, promote Nelson Figueroa, DFA Figueroa 18 hours later and promote Casey Fossum. I bet the conversation went just like this… Omar: Have a seat fellas, we need to figure out what we’re gonna do about this Mike Pelfrey situation. Adviser 1: What’s there to think about? [...]

Pessimistic, Bitter, or Both?

My father was asking me if I was going to visit the new Yankee Stadium. I told him I would not pay to set foot in there. I would only go if I got a free ticket. I refuse to give them my money. My fathers’ response? “You’re still bitter from 2000.” Mind you, he is a Mets fan as well. It’s because of him that I am so passionate about my team. So I [...]

Mets Lose To Brewers 4-2, DFA Figueroa

I guess a three game sweep was too much to ask for as the Mets wasted plenty of scoring opportunities and fell to the Brewers 4-2. The problem with this loss is that the Mets squandered a gutsy start by Nelson Figueroa who did all he could manage to keep the Mets in the game and within striking distance.  Figueroa pitched six innings and allowed 3 runs on just five hits while dealing with an [...]

Attempted Murderers Row

What a horrible game!  Nine men left in scoring position. Situational hitting hovering at or about zero. David Wright, please return to the Mets!  I’m at a loss. Brewers don’t have a good pitching staff, and they made us look terrible. Whenever something good started happening, such as a leadoff double or some such, we’d then fizzle right out. People love to say that it’s hard to sweep, but we could and should have swept [...]

Mets Notes – Johan, Mighty Pen, Deja Vu, 22-4

Random thoughts on the Mets, baseball and global warming… Johan Santana proves that you don’t quibble about prospects when you are getting a proven Major League talent in return. The Twins will be lamenting this trade for years while Mets fans get treated to a pitching gem every time Santana takes the mound. One of those prospects we gave up was Phil Humber who was released on Friday. Santana has been the best pitcher in [...]

Is Jerry Manuel Tripping?

Update: Carlos Beltran will be starting and playing in centerfield today, as opposed to what was reported earlier. Thanks to Amazin86er for the tip. I’m not one to mess around with a real life Gangsta, but what exactly was Jerry Manuel on, when he wrote out his lineup card for todays game? Did he toast to Santana’s great start a little bit too much last night? Or was this decision the result of something a little bit [...]

Nelson Figueroa Starts Sunday, Darren O’Day DFA’d

Newsday is reporting that Mike Pelfrey will not make his scheduled start Sunday against the Brewers because of right forearm tendinitis. Shortly after the Mets beat the Brewers, 5-4, on Friday, they announced that Nelson Figueroa will be Pelfrey’s replacement and that Darren O’Day had been designated for assignment to make room on the roster. The plan is for Pelfrey to miss only one start, be available out of the bullpen in an emergency this week [...]
