Carlos Beltran recorded the 1,000th RBI of his career in the third inning on Friday, becoming the 259th player in Major League history to achieve the feat.
Originally, Beltran’s shot to center field in the third was ruled a single and an error after Nationals center fielder Elijah Dukes misplayed the ball, allowing Luis Castillo to score. But the game’s official scorer changed the ruling an inning later, crediting Beltran with a triple and his 1,000th RBI.
Beltran achieved the feat on his 32nd birthday.
Beltran continues to wield a hot bat and currently leads the National League in batting with a .408 average. His hot start also prompted Jerry Manuel to move him up from fifth to third in the batting order and he responded with at three run homer in his first game there.
