I Like Mike… Big Pelf That Is
Last year marked Big Pelf’s first genuine MLB season. He pitched 200 innings, and I think he proved that he has the ability to be a top-quality hurler. I am not brimming with confidence about the 2009 Mets this spring unlike my attitude for the past two springs, which I’m guessing I share with the other millions of fans out there, but I am excited and expectant over Mike P. At the risk of preaching [...]

Freddy Garcia: Either You Start Me Or I’m Outta Here
Although everyone expects that Freddy Garcia will win the battle for the final rotation spot anyway, Garcia put a big exclamation point on it yesterday. While being interviewed by Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post, Freddy Garcia shed some light on his surgically repaired shoulder and then made a bold prediction about his future. “Yeah, yeah, 100 percent – of course I expect to be in the rotation. If I don’t make the rotation, I’ll [...]

Battle For Final Rotation Spot Takes Shape
With the most recent signing of Oliver Perez, the Mets have solidified the first four spots in their rotation. Most of you should easily recognize the names because it is exactly how the Mets left off in 2008; Johan Santana, Mike Pelfrey, Oliver Perez, John Maine. The only name missing from that 2008 rotation is Pedro Martinez who will be replaced this season by either Tim Redding, Freddy Garcia, Jon Niese or Bobby Parnell. All four [...]

Mets Prospect: Brad Holt Is The Next Big Thing
Brad Holt has continued to impress ever since the Mets drafted him as a supplemental pick in the first round of the 2008 draft. This morning, Bart Hubbuch of the Post gives us another reason to be pumped up about the Mets prospect who is in St. Lucie for his first spring training. Right-hander Brad Holt doesn’t have an invitation to the Mets’ major-league camp this spring, but get used to hearing the name. The 6-foot-4 [...]

My Issue With The Media and Wright
Here’s my serious problem with the media. They go to everybody for an opinion about a topic. Why go to David Wright and ask him about the A-Rod and his drug issues? Wright is a member of the New York Mets. It is not his problem. If you cannot get Derek Jeter to talk about it until next week Tuesday, that is your own problem. Do not bring the Yankees problems to the Mets. It [...]

Is Johan Really the Best Pitcher In Baseball?
Yesterday, in Jeff Passan’s column on Yahoo Sports, he previewed the NL East and was very honest, saying the Mets should have blown up the whole team and started over again before beginning anew in Citi Field. That’s because choking down the stretch two years running leaves scars on a team’s collective ego. Yes, that’s an exaggeration, and while I don’t think Omar Minaya made enough moves (yet) to avoid another disappointing season, it’s something [...]

Some Spring Battles to Keep Your Eyes On
With Spring Training so close, and with players already arriving at camp, its time to focus down on a few battles that probably will go on during Mets Spring Training. These are not the only battles, this is more of a taste of what could and will probably will unfold this Spring. The first battle is that last rotation spot. With the rotation set with (but not in any order) Santana, Pelfrey, Maine, and Perez [...]

Put It In The Books, The Mets Win The Division
The good folks at Baseball Prospectus dished out a healthy dose of optimism for Mets fans on Tuesday. Based on their projections and statistical analysis, the forecast the Mets to win 93 games and take the division. Surprisingly, they also have the Braves finishing in a tie with the Phillies. East W L RS RA AVG OBP SLG New York Mets 93 69 833 713 0.264 0.339 0.417 Atlanta Braves 88 74 818 742 0.271 [...]

This Season Root, Root, Root For Castillo
I know with this post I’m not going to be very popular with our readers. I was adamant this whole off-season of unloading Luis Castillo and signing Orlando Hudson. After last season I didn’t want Luis Castillo anywhere near this team and was hoping against hope that the Mets would trade him or outright release him. Having said that I have come to accept the fact that Luis Castillo will be our everyday second baseman [...]

Mets Spring Into Action: Santana, Maine Ready To Go
Despite not officially starting until this Friday, the sounds of Spring Training filled the air at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie. Gloves were popping as players, coaches and fans alike, gathered to see Johan Santana and John Maine pitch. Both are coming off surgery and everyone was eager to see how they were. The NY Post gives us some info on both of their throwing sessions. John Maine, who is coming back from surgery [...]

Miguel Tejada To Plead Guilty To Perjury
The Performance enhancing beast does not go away. Former all-star shortstop of the Houston Astros, Miguel Tejada is expected to plead guilty in court to charges that he lied to the House Oversight Committee about knowledge that another teammate with the Oakland A’s used steroids. The alleged infraction happened in 2005 when he was called to speak in front of the House. The FBI also believes that he purchased HGH from the same teammate [...]
