Carlos Beltran Wants To Retire A Met
Carlos Beltran, spoke to Daily News writer Christian Red, and I’m diggin’ what he’s sayin… To begin, Beltran weighed in on the recent comments made by Cole Hamels who said the Mets are choke artists. “I just have to say, the Phillies did play well. They were champions last year. This year is a new year. I still believe we have a great team. If he says those words – when you say words like [...]

According to Sports Radio WEEI, Former Red Sox infielder Alex Cora has agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal with the New York Mets. The 33-year-old Cora played with Boston from July 7, 2005 — when he was traded from Cleveland for infielder Ramon Vazquez — through last season. Cora played in 75 games with the Red Sox last season, hitting .270 with a .371 on-base percentage. The infielder, who did a stint on the [...]

Don’t Count Billy Wagner Out Yet!
Here’s some good news from Eddie Coleman at WFAN: Spoke with Billy Wagner today. I’m sure he’s a distant memory to most Met fans since the acquisitions of K-Rod and Putz, but Wagner is doing well and progressing ahead of schedule. He’s been working out three times a week, strengthening his elbow and shoulder in his native Virginia, and he’s very close to throwing again. Coleman also adds that the timetable for his return could [...]

The Curious Case Of Carlos Delgado
One of the more prominent movies of the new year stars Brad Pitt, and is about an old man who gets younger through the years instead of older. Sort of like what happened to Carlos Delgado right around the All Star break last season. Even before the injuries took their toll on Carlos Delgado, the decline began after the 2005 season when he hit .301 for The Marlins, followed by .265 in ’06, .258 in ’07 [...]

Special Feature: The Franchise
Before there was David Wright, before there was Mike Piazza, before there was Keith Hernandez, there was Tom Seaver. He was the first true superstar to wear the blue & orange, the first ‘Face of the Mets.’ And to this day, a quarter of a century after he pitched his last game for us, he still remains the fans all-time favorite. Of 800+ players who have played for the Mets, Seaver’s #41 remains the only [...]

What Happens to Pedro?
With the Mets signing Redding this past week to have him “compete” with Niese for the final rotation spot, and still confident that they will sign either Lowe or Perez, the question then becomes what happens to Pedro. Omar still likes Pedro, and was open to his return. Pedro has made it very public that he wants to return to the Mets. But with the signing of Redding and the possibility of other signings, there [...]

In just one week our country will have a new leader. Barack Obama will become the 44th President of the United States. On June 23rd the Cyclones will be known as the Baracklyn Cyclones and will sport specially designed red, white and blue jerseys. The first 2,500 fans will receive free Barack Obama bobbleheads while the first 1,000 will [...]

Coming Home Again Does Not Come With Guarantees
With Jason Giambi going back to the Oakland Athletics, where he began his baseball journey, people have started to discuss if going back to the original team a player started with would resurrect their careers. I do not agree with this. Coming home again does not come with any guarantees. Some people argue that it gives the player more motivation to play. If this were the case, why play at all? By making that argument, [...]

Let It Be
This offseason, Omar Minaya has fixed the bullpen. He hasn’t done much else; I would have signed Oliver Perez before Tim Redding. It’s such a shame they’re not even considering Perez. I would give him a multi-year deal over Derek Lowe any day of the week. With the departures of both Aaron Heilman and Scott Schoneweis, Luis Castillo has officially taken the role of Jessica’s Scapegoat (although seeing the posts below, I may have to [...]

Done Deal – Mets Sign Tim Redding To $2.25 MM Contract
Meet the newest Met… Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the New York Mets have signed pitcher Tim Redding to a one year deal worth $2.25 million dollars that could be worth as much as $3.45 million based on appearances. Redding, who grew up in New York, has agreed in principle on a one-year, $2.25-million deal with the New York Mets, according to a major league source. Redding, 30, won 10 games last season [...]

Flurry of World Baseball Classic News
Several players made it official yesterday that they will be playing for their respective countries, including a current and former Met. Former Met, (or really former Met prospect), Matt Lindstrom, has accepted an invite to play for team USA. He will be joined by Roy Oswalt who recently agreed to comeback and by Curtis Granderson who also agreed today that he will play for team USA. If you are going to root for team USA [...]
