The New York Mets called up Daniel Zamora from Triple-A Syracuse and optioned Chris Flexen after Saturday’s 10-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, as detailed by Tim Healey of Newsday.

Flexen, 24, started Saturday’s game in place of Jacob deGrom and did not fare well at all lasting only 4 1/3 innings while allowing six runs (five earned), seven hits, and four walks while striking out nobody.

Zamora, 26, will come up for his first stint with the MLB club this season. In five Syracuse appearances (five innings pitched), the left-hander has allowed one run, two hits, and one walk while striking out seven batters.

In 2018, the latter made appeared in 16 games for the Mets in which he pitched nine innings allowing three runs (3.00 ERA) while notching 16 strikeouts.

This move leaves the Mets with nine relievers as they have been playing one man short on the bench since optioning Luis Guillorme to Triple-A.

Todd Frazier expected to return in the next few days to give the team five bench players again and when deGrom is activated on Friday the bullpen will return to its normal seven-man group.
