Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen said back on November 4 that he was unsure if outfielder Yoenis Cespedes would play during the 2020 season. “It’s too early to tell…I don’t have enough information to predict when he’s going to be back.”

Mets minor league coach Endy Chavez posted a video on Instagram today of him throwing batting practice to Cespedes in Florida.

Cespedes – owed $29.5 million by the Mets for the 2020 season – missed the entire 2019 season due to multiple injuries. The slugger had surgery on both heels in late 2018 and then fractured his ankle in May of 2019 when he fell into a hole on his ranch.

The 34-year-old will attempt a comeback following multiple heel and ankle surgeries in his final season under contract with the Mets. When on the field Cespedes has been very good for the Mets, hitting .282/.346/.543 in 308 games since being traded to them in 2015.
