The New York Yankees are bringing back a familiar face.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic tweeted earlier this evening that the Yankees were progressing towards a deal with left-handed reliever Zach Britton. Jon Heyman of FanCred reports the deal will be for three years, while Jeff Passan of ESPN says New York will be able to exercise a fourth-year option after the second season. If not, Britton can opt out after the second year.
The deal is reportedly worth $40 million.
Britton, 31, was acquired by the Yankees midseason in a deal with the Baltimore Orioles. Between the two teams, he logged a 3.10 ERA, 4.22 FIP, 140 ERA+, and 7.5 K/9 in 41 appearances.
The eight-year veteran will return to the Bronx, and could soon be joined by Adam Ottavino, who New York could look to replace David Robertson with.
