In a report from Joel Sherman of the New York Post, he notes the New York Yankees have interest in Mets left-handed reliever Jerry Blevins.

In the report, Sherman did mention some obstacles to a potential deal. While he did not cite any specific source on the topic, he did note there may be a hesitation for the Mets to trade within the division or with the Yankees.

Another potential obstacle is the Yankees may seek to allocate their resources at first base due to the uncertainty surrounding Greg Bird. While the Mets do have Lucas Duda on the trading block, Sherman believes the Yankees would prefer Yonder Alonso.

Finally, there is the issue of how Blevins’ performance has dropped off considerably. The most used reliever in the majors has recently been showing signs of fatigue. Since June 1st, Blevins has a 6.75 ERA, 1.968 WHIP, and opposing batters are hitting .298/.389/.468 off him.

Overall, Blevins has made 44 appearances going 4-0 with a 3.54 ERA, 1.393 WHIP, and a 12.5 K/9.

If the Yankees remain interested despite these hurdles, the Mets definitely should be willing to trade with their cross-town rivals much in the same way the Cubs and White Sox did in the Jose Quintana deal.

Naturally, the Mets should only trade Blevins to the Yankees if they present the best offer, and the Yankees is worth more to the Mets than picking up Blevins’ $7 million 2018 team option.
