The New York Mets defeated the Kansas City Royals by a score of 9-3 tonight at Citi Field, and in the process cut the World Series deficit to 2-1.

Pitching:

Noah Syndergaard got the ball for Citi Field’s first ever World Series game, looking to get the Mets back on track.

After being slapped around the first two innings, allowing three runs on six hits, Thor buckled down and set down the next twelve batters.

In the sixth inning, Syndergaard ran into a bit of trouble, as he loaded the bases, with the Mets only up 5-3 at the time. However, the young righty was able to get Alex Rios to ground out to end the inning and keep the lead in tact.

Ultimately, Syndergaard would pitch six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, while walking two and striking out six.

With the Mets exploding for four runs in the bottom of the sixth, the pressure was taken off Addison Reed and Tyler Clippard, who pitched the seventh and eighth innings respectively, and kept the Royals off the board.

Jeurys Familia came on in a non-save situation for the ninth inning, and shut the door as he recorded a 1,2,3 inning.

Offense:

After the Royals had taken an early 1-0 lead, the Mets retaliated right back, as David Wright hit a no-doubt two-run home run to left field.

With the Royals regaining the lead in the second 3-2, Curtis Granderson contributed a two-run shot of his own in the third, and giving the Mets the lead for good.

In the fourth inning, the Mets tacked on another run on a single from Michael Conforto to give them a 5-3 lead at the time, and chased Royals’ starter Yordano Ventura from the game in the process.

In the sixth inning, Juan Lagares and Wilmer Flores reached base for Juan Uribe, who was making his first postseason appearance this year. Uribe then promptly smacked an opposite field single to drive in Lagares from third.

David Wright came to the plate later in the inning with the bases juiced, and drove in two more runs with a single up the middle, his third and fourth RBI’s of the game.

Yoenis Cespedes then put the final nail in the coffin, as he drove in the Mets ninth run of the game, with a sacrifice fly to left field.
