No word yet on David Wright and what went down in California, but some very important news from Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.
Rosenthal learned from a team source that Wright’s contract is insured for up to 75 percent of the total value.
Once Wright misses 60 days, the Mets would begin to receive 75 percent of the payments due on his contract for as long as he remains out.
This disputes what Adam Rubin tweeted out on Sunday that the Mets did not insure Wright’s contract because they prefer to “self-insure” with what he called a rainy day fund.
Anyway, if Wright’s contract is insured, and I’m thinking that it is, it would not hamstring the team if God forbid the worst case scenario would unfold with Wright’s back issue.

Mets Captain David Wright is making a cross-country trip to try to fix his ailing back.
The All-Star third baseman will travel to California to see Dr. Michael Watkins and his staff after being diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis last week. According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, David will spend a week with Watkins.
Wright, who dealt with a back fracture in 2011, went on the disabled list with a hamstring issue on April 14. His rehab was halted on May 6 when he began to feel pain in his back, and, after Wright resumed rehab on May 18, he was shut down for another week on Saturday, when the diagnosis was announced.
Spinal Stenosis varies in severity, but at its worst, can be a potentially career-ending condition. Alderson said that surgery has not been discussed as an option so far, and that doctors have indicated that the 32 year-old Wright’s injury should heal with rest.
“We hope that with this week of rest that he will be able to resume his progression,” Alderson said. “This has been a stop-start proposition for us from the beginning.”
The Mets GM hopes to have more clarity in the next couple of days regarding Wright’s status.
“As we continue to have setbacks we have to reassess how to go forward, but I think we’re a handful of days away from hopefully knowing something that will give us a better idea.”
According to Begley’s ESPN NY colleague Adam Rubin, Alderson stated that calling up infield prospect Matt Reynolds at some point in the near future is an option.
