David Wright, one of the best position players this franchise has ever had and team captain, thinks he can return this season despite not having played a regular season game.

Speaking to reporters at Citi Field Wednesday, general manager Sandy Alderson spoke about the seven-time All Star and how he doesn’t think Wright’s return is a sure thing.

“I don’t know how many answers he will have or we will have through the end of this season,” Alderson said.

When asked if he thought a return to play this season was realistic for Wright, Alderson replied, “He certainly thinks it is.”

Wright, 34, hasn’t played a game since 2016. He is a career .296/.376/.491 hitter with 242 home runs, 970 RBIs and 1777 hits.
