What can you say about David Wright that hasn’t been said already? He continues to improve in ways that we as Mets fans have never been accustomed to. In many ways he is absolutely perfect in his on the field and off the field persona.

Thanks to Wright’s four hit performance last night, the Mets find themselves all alone in first place in the National League East. I’m betting that they stay in first place for good. The MLB odds are in their favor. I look at the rest of the division and the rest of the league, and I struggle to find a team that can even compare to the Mets right now.

That’s not to say that we have no problems or concerns… all teams do. Our shortcomings however, pale in comparison to the other teams. While other teams pine for an ideal leadoff hitter, or a rock-steady ace pitcher, or a bona-fide closer,  or a solid number 3 or 4 hitter, the Mets instead concern themselves with less substantive matters.

One such matter is the bridge to Billy Wagner. Aaron Heilman did his best Armando Benitez impersonation last night when he served up a letter high change-up that was deposited somewhere beyond the far reaches of space. And no matter how many times Willie Randolph calls him his guy, don’t think for one moment that Duaner Sanchez is not already being groomed to take over the setup spot. You see what I mean… Our one big problem and yet the solution is already in the house.

Everyone was in a panic state when Pedro followed El Duque to the disabled list, and yet Nelson Figueroa and Mike Pelfrey stepped in and delivered performances that were beyond anyones expectations.

The Mets are a sure thing this season. I’m betting that they go all the way. The magic is back. This is the team and the time. Our season has come. Sorry… I couldn’t resist…
