Wright Officially Placed On DL, Nick Evans Called Up

The Mets announced they have placed third baseman David Wright on the disabled list, retroactive to Monday, with a stress fracture in his lower back.

Wright hurt himself on April 19 while trying to make a diving play in the field, and he had a magnetic resonance imaging exam and a CT scan Monday to confirm the injury.

David Wright will join a crowded Mets disabled list and becomes the tenth player to be DL’ed this season for the Mets.

Rest is the plan for Wright who won’t have any baseball activities for 10 days, after which he’ll be reevaluated.

Nick Evans was called up from Triple-A Buffalo, and he’ll take Wright’s place on the 25-man roster. He is expected to get plenty of playing time against left handed pitching.

“Nick brings some power, some sock to our lineup,” Collins said of Evans, a right-handed hitter. “Certainly I’m going to try to get him in against left-handing pitching.”
