INTO THE RECORD BOOKS!

David Wright’s two-run home run in the sixth-inning gave him 735 career RBI, the most in franchise history, passing Darryl Strawberry, who had 733.

“I think that just kind of growing up and knowing the history of the organization, to have your name mentioned in the same breath with Strawberry and Piazza and some of these guys, is quite an honor, and hopefully there’s more to come.”

WRIGHT ON TIME!

David Wright has three home runs this season and all three have given the Mets a lead…Besides tonight, Wright’s other two home runs came on: April 7 vs. Atlanta, a 4-2 win and April 14 at Philadelphia in a 5-0 win.

“I get a tremendous amount of pride to put that uniform on. Obviously, we’ve had some tough times over the last three years. But every day I come to the ballpark I’m extremely lucky and fortunate to put this uniform on. You never take it for granted.”

GAME-WINNING RBIS!

Tonight’s two-run home run was Wright’s fourth game-winning RBI this season. He has 102 game-winning RBI during his career, extending his franchise record. 102 game-winning hits – that’s incredible.

“I’ve been fortunate to do it all for this franchise that drafted me, developed me and allowed me to play here for a number of years. I’m very grateful to the organization and grateful to the fans.”

A FRANCHISE PLAYER!

David Wright ranks in the top 10 in franchise history in nearly every major offensive category including hits, doubles, runs, walks, batting average, on-base percentage and slugging.

“It’s nice being mentioned for the individual things but what I really want is to be mentioned, have that type of legacy that those guys had in `86 and even the Mike Piazza era and the Subway Series. That’s ultimately where I want to be mentioned.”

What we have in David Wright is the greatest home grown position player ever to wear the Mets uniform. One day, you’ll see the No. 5 right next to No. 41 on the outfield wall. That’s mot an exaggeration and I truly believe that. I do believe the Mets will sign him to an extension and that he will be our first great lifelong Met in franchise history. I believe Darryl Strawberry nailed it yesterday when he said David Wright is to the Mets what Derek Jeter is to the Yankees.

Congratulations to David Wright and such a monumental milestone for the Mets and for his career.

What a class act.
