After his 2nd straight outing allowing 4 runs, the Mets offense picked up Johan Santana and won their 4th straight on the road from the Indians, 7-6.

Game Recap

Johan Santana went out today, and although not dominant, he controlled his damage to primarily the 2nd inning. Johan allowed 4 runs on 7 hits with 2 walks and only 1 strikeout in 7 innings. Although he was hittable and obviously pitching to contact, Johan’s fastball was hitting 91-92, which is a good sign that his arm may be strengthening. It was also a great thing to see Johan finally get the run support he has deserved all season long.

The bullpen came out and shut the door, with Perpetual Pedro Feliciano pitching an inning, striking out 1 and walking 1. Yet again, another good rebound performance as Pedro hasn’t looked in control at all this season. K-Rod came out, and decided to go for the dramatic save, giving up a home run to pinch-hitter Shelley Duncan before securing the last out for his 14th save.

The Mets offense was mostly quiet for the majority of the game, minus a David Wright 1st inning single to score Jose Reyes. With intelligent hitting and taking advantage of the relative inexperience and defensive ineptitude of the Indians, The Mets scored runs on a Jose Reyes bunt single, when the throw was bricked by Indians pitcher Justin Masterson, a David Wright single to short, that scored Alex Cora and Jose Reyes, even though Jose Reyes ran through the stop sign put up by 3rd base coach Chip Hale. Ike Davis then capped the small ball, with a moonshot to dead center, scoring David Wright. Jason Bay would tack on a run for good measure, on a fielders choice, and that would be the deciding run.

David Wright went 3-5 with 3 RBI, but does the K monster he has been avoiding loom again? He struck out twice.

Jason Bay – Different day, same story. 0-5 with an RBI. The Animal, Chris Carter, was caged, going 0-4

Turning Point

The heads-up baseball that was played in the 5th inning, allowing 5 runs to score all kicked off by Jeff Francoeur’s single to left.

Game Ball

David Wright. 3-5, 3 RBI, run scored. One of the better games overall for Mr. Wright.
