Syndergaard Noah

After losing to the Royals in the World Series, Mets’ star pitchers Noah Syndergaard and Jacob deGrom are now more determined than ever to win it all. While it was an outstanding season for both pitchers overall, they were extremely disappointed with how it ended and really want to make up for it in 2016.

“Losing that game and watching them celebrate on the field like that was heartbreaking,” the Mets right-hander said Thursday. “It definitely left a hunger in everyone’s mind and in their hearts to get back there next year and win the whole thing.”

“I think now that we got a taste of it, we want it even more,’’ deGrom said of losing the World Series in five games. “We’re looking forward to getting out there.”(Dan Martin, NY Post)

Despite falling short, both pitchers are very confident about the team’s potential next season. When asked if he thought the Mets had the best rotation heading into 2016, Syndergaard said he thought so and deGrom didn’t disagree.

It’s easy to understand why they are so confident as the Met have an excellent young pitching staff, which deGrom and Syndergaard are a huge part of.  DeGrom won 14 games this season and posted an outstanding 2.54 ERA in 30 starts. Meanwhile, Syndergaard had a 3.25 ERA with 166 strikeouts in 150 innings.

“We’re going to have a bit of hunger in us to get back to the World Series and win it [next] year,” Syndergaard said

One factor that might help them pitch even better next year is having a consistent routine, which was a problem all season. They had to deal with innings limits and six man rotations throughout the year, but this shouldn’t be a problem any longer as Terry Collins went on the record saying that there won’t be any restrictive innings limits on their starters this season.

“It’ll be nice to have a five-man rotation and stick to that,” deGrom said. “I think it’s a lot easier when you can stick to that routine and not worry about having to skip starts and stuff.”
