HOUSTON ASTROS (2-2) vs PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES (2-2)
Thursday, November 3, 2022 – 8:03 p.m. EDT – Citizens Bank Park
World Series Game 5 – FOX
RHP Noah Syndergaard (0-0, 1.69) vs. RHP Justin Verlander (1-0, 7.20)

The Astros made history on Wednesday night when they threw the first combined no-hitter and just the second no-no overall in World Series history. Houston starter Cristian Javier became the first pitcher since Mets’ lefty Jerry Koosman in Game 2 of the 1969 World Series to pitch at least six no-hit innings in a World Series game. Javier was followed by an inning of no-hit ball each by Bryan Abreu, Rafael Montero, and then Ryan Pressly to close out the 5-0 win.

Alex Bregman led a five-run scoring fifth inning to give the Astros all the runs they would need to tie the best-of-seven series at 2-2. Jeremy Pena and Yuli Gurriel each had two hits for Houston as well.

On Thursday night, the Astros hope veteran Justin Verlander can snap his streak of eight World Series starts without a win. The right-hander has a 6.07 ERA in those starts including the five runs in five innings he gave up in Game 1 of this World Series.

Former Met Noah Syndergaard will make his first World Series start since he won Game 3 in 2015 in New York. The right-hander last pitched during the current playoffs when he went 1 1/3 innings of scoreless ball in Game 4 of the Championship Series against the Padres. Syndergaard’s last start came in the Division Series this year against the Braves and he went three innings in that outing.
