The New York Mets announced that Buffalo Bisons RHP MATT HARVEY will start for New York on Thursday, July 26 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Mets will place Harvey on the 24-hour taxi squad on Monday and then active the pitcher on Tuesday.

Harvey, 23, was 7-5 with a 3.68 ERA in a league-high 20 starts. He leads the Bisons in all pitching triple crown categories, including his 112 strikeouts that are 2nd best in the International League. Harvey struck out 10 or more batters in three starts this season and the righty has allowed 97 hits and 48 walks while holding opponents to a .204 (22-108) average with runners in scoring position.

Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News speculates that Harvey’s departure from the Bisons’ rotation almost certainly signals the promotion of top prospect Zach Wheeler from Double-A Binghamton to replace him. Wheeler, 22, is 9-5 with a 2.99 ERA and 101 strikeouts for the B-Mets.

Anyway, ready or not, here he comes…
