Mets prospect Michael Conforto continues to demolish Florida State League pitching, so much so that Marc Carig of Newsday says the 2014 first rounder has put himself in line for a promotion about a month ahead of schedule.

Conforto, 22, has been raking for Advanced-A St. Lucie and is wielding a .348/.439/.652 slash line with three doubles, six homers, 19 RBI and 14 runs scored.

Perhaps more impressive is that in 69 at-bats he’s collected 12 walks while only striking out 10 times.

Carig reports that because opponents have started pitching around him, “Mets officials believe a promotion to Double-A Binghamton could come as soon as early May.”

Conforto was recognized as the Player of the Week by the Florida State League for the period ending April 19, but has continued his torrid pace at the plate this week with two more home runs. He is third in the league in batting and second in OPS (1.091).

I incorrectly projected Conforto to begin this season in Binghamton this past Winter, but I’m thrilled to see him overpower the FSL the way he has and that he’ll soon make his way onto the B-Mets roster. I still say he ends his first full pro season at Triple-A Las Vegas.
