Wednesday night was a disappointment for the Mets as they dropped their fifth straight game, this time 10-7 to the Cubs at Citi Field. One of the lone bright spots during the losing streak continues to be the strong second half by catcher Wilson Ramos.
The 32-year-old went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored on Wednesday to extend his hitting streak to 21 games. The streak is the longest current one in the majors and the longest one of the season.
The 21-game streak by Ramos ties Mike Piazza‘s streak in 2000 for the eighth longest in team history. John Olerud, Mike Vail, and Cleon Jones all had 23 game streak then Piazza and Hubie Brooks had 24 gamers, David Wright is second with a 26-game streak, and the Mets franchise record is 30 games set by Moises Alou in 2007.
Ramos is hitting .290/.354/.417 with 11 doubles, 13 home runs, and 64 RBI in the first season of a two-year deal. Unfortunately, on the defensive side, Ramos ranks 93rd out of 104 catcher defensive according to Baseball Prospectus.
