The Mets conducted the second part of their first interview with Sandy Alderson today at Citi Field, thus completing the first round of interviews to fill the general manager position.

Alderson met with Jeff Wilpon and assistant general manager John Ricco and toured Citi Field. Afterward, Jeff Wilpon sent out this email:

Dear Mets Fans:

As you may know, earlier today we completed the initial round of interviews with six talented candidates to become the new General Manager of the New York Mets.

Each was extremely impressive – Allard Baird, Rick Hahn, Josh Byrnes, Sandy Alderson, Logan White, and Dana Brown. All reiterated their desire and interest in pursuing this opportunity.

We will be in direct communication with each as we narrow the candidate pool by early next week. We subsequently will invite the leading candidates back to meet with Fred, Saul, and me.

We have an outstanding group from which to select our new General Manager. We look forward to sharing more information with you soon.

Sincerely,

Jeff Wilpon
COO

I don’t see anything in that statement about waiting to see other candidates?

Sounds like the Jon Daniels thing was what I thought and said it was all along… hogwash.

What this statement does reveal is the six candidates who are currently in the mix, and a clear message that from this group the Mets will narrow it down and eventually name their new GM.

May the best person win.
