One of the players the Mets got yesterday along with J.J. Putz and Jeremy Reed, was relief pitcher Sean Green.

Green is a right handed side-armer who specializes in inducing ground balls.

Dan Graziano believes that he could be flipped in another deal to fill another hole. Here is what he wrote on his blog this evening.

Minaya is already getting calls from other teams, including the Detroit Tigers, asking him if he’s interested in “flipping” right-handed reliever Sean Green, who came over Wednesday night in the deal that brought in J.J. Putz and sent Heilman to Seattle. The Mets like Green for their bullpen, but they’re willing to listen.

In today’s Rule 5 Draft, the Mets selected Darren O’Day.

Elliot Teichman from 213 Miles From Shea, writes this about O’Day.

He is 26 from the Angels and is a side arm relief pitcher (Joe Smith replacement?) In 30 Appearances last season, he pitched 43 innings, had 29 K’s, and posted a 4.57 ERA. (With the Angels). What is striking to me is that he was a sidearm pitcher that had a good amount innings above the number of appearances. He could become a key piece for 7th inning or earlier relief.

Being that the Mets must keep O’Day on the roster, maybe Sean Green will indeed be flipped. It makes sense.

Why keep two right handed, side-armers in the bullpen who have similar pitch arsenals?
