Yesterday there was at least one positive development, as far as Mets fans are concerned, and that was the news that Jose Reyes is doing well in his rehab from surgery on his right leg to remove scar tissue.

Reyes, who tore the hamstring tendon in his right leg last season, said he has had no pain after surgery and expects to be 100% by the start of spring training.

“The doctors said I am supposed to be the same Jose Reyes, I should be 100%, I should recover my speed. I don’t know if (I am) going to recover it right away, but I am working for that. When I am healthy, I will be able to do the things I did before.”

It seemed like some kind of an ominous warning when Reyes managed to slip in the part that he may not recover his speed right away, which is pretty much 80% of his value to the team and the top of the order.

Without his speed, Reyes is pretty much… ordinary.

The hamstring muscle that wiped out his season is said to have healed with rest, and yesterday he said that he has been running to build up strength in the leg. He has physical therapy and rehab on his leg about three hours a day.

The big test for Reyes comes this Monday when he plans to start baseball activities again. (Keep your fingers crossed.)

Reyes is obviously one of the main cogs on this team, and unless he can get back to his pre-injury form, it will only make it that much more difficult for the Mets to get a fast start out of the gate next season.

How confident are you that Reyes will return to be the impact player he once was for the Mets?

How confident are you that these leg injuries have finally been dealt with properly and that there won’t be any setbacks?
