The Mets continue searching for a president of baseball operations. Their top three of Theo Epstein, Billy Beane, and David Stearns are well-known to be out of the running for the job. Let’s check in on the latest staus of the lesser-known bunch.
Brandon Gomes – OUT
The former MLB pitcher and current Dodgers vice president and assistant GM is out of the running for the job according to MMOs Michael Mayer.
Sources: Dodgers executive Brandon Gomes is not going to join the Mets front office.
Gomes, a fast riser after retiring recently, is expected to get a promotion with the Dodgers.

Gomes is 37 and just six years removed from pitching in the majors.
Scott Harris – OUT
The San Francisco Giants general manager was in and out of the running quicker than you could paddle your canoe in McCovey Cove.
Update: Giants GM Scott Harris has told the Mets he’s not joining their organization.
He talked to the Mets about their front office opening last week.

Per The Athletic’s Andrew Baggarly, the decline of the job is less a reflection on the Mets situations and more on Harris is Bay Area native excited about the future of the Giants.
Peter Bendix – OUT
Bendix started with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2009 as an intern and it appears he’ll be there through at least 2022. He’s currently their vice president of baseball development.
Sources say Rays executive Peter Bendix is likely to stay in Tampa Bay.
The Mets had discussed him as a possibility for their front office.

Josh Byrnes – IN
Byrnes, the former D’Backs and Padres GM, is currently the Dodgers senior VP of baseball operations. He’s held that role since 2014 and played an important role in their recent success, including a 2020 World Series title.
Byrnes has worked with Mets head of analytics Ben Zauzmer in Los Angeles before he came to New York this season.
Brian Sabean – IN/OUT
Well, Sabean is in, but the Mets are out. The former longtime general manager of the San Francisco Giants is interested in the Mets position but multiple reports have surfaced saying the Mets have not contacted him.
Sabean was the Giants’ GM from 1997-2014, overseeing the rosters that brought three championships to the city. In 2014 he was moved to a new role as executive vice president of baseball operations.
Matt Arnold – IN
The Milwaukee Brewers GM works with former candidate David Stearns. He spent nine years in Tampa Bay before going north in 2015. He was the senior vice president and assistant GM, before his promotion in 2020.
The Mets' top candidate for president of baseball operations at the moment appears to be Brewers general manager Matt Arnold. There has been contact, and I'm hearing the Mets may have made him an offer.

Michael Girsch – OUT
#Mets reached out to #Cardinals late last week for permission to talk to GM Michael Girsch about the opening to run baseball ops in Queens, according two sources. He elected to stay with the Cardinals, a team source confirmed.
