You know, the Dodgers had their own Annual Holiday Party yesterday at Dodger Stadium – only it was a whole lot different than the bash the Mets held on Tuesday. The only things GM Ned Colletti could talk about was winning championships and how the 2013 season would be nothing like their 2012 season. Basically, the exact opposite of what our own Sandy Alderson had to say, but hey, that’s life in the House That Fred Built and Sandy Saved.
Can you imagine what it must be like to be a Dodger fan these days?
Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports says the Dodgers are now the most expensive team in sports history: bigger than any Yankees outfit, higher-spending than the Barcelona football club – with more than twice their own opening-day payroll from 2012. Wow…
The Dodgers now have four $20 million-plus players, another six owed more than $10 million and five more at more than $5 million. Everything goes back to their local-television contract, which, if finalized as expected before the year ends, will net them between $6 billion and $7 billion for the next 25 years. The Dodgers will make in six games what some franchises make for an entire season in TV revenue – and they’ll keep a vast majority of it.
It seems hardly fair, doesn’t it.
Imagine, if you will, if the Mets had been for sale as they should have been, and the Magic Johnson group had purchased us instead?
I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t be sitting here on December 13th with only Anthony Recker and Brandon Hicks in tow.
