
Zack Wheeler, who had been placed on the disabled list with bicep tendinitis, is expected to make his return to the Mets on Friday against the Philadelphia Phillies per Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News.
Wheeler, 27, threw a 72-pitch bullpen at 95-100% early Sunday morning.
“He threw well,” Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen said. “The ball came out good.”
After allowing 15 runs over eight effective starts, Wheeler imploded for 15 runs in just two starts (3.2 innings), allowing five home runs in that span.
Overall, Wheeler is 3-5 with a 5.29 ERA, 4.86 FIP, and 1.538 WHIP in 66.1 innings, walking 29 and striking out 61. He will rejoin a rotation that includes Jacob deGrom, Steven Matz, Seth Lugo, Robert Gsellman, and Rafael Montero.
