Today was kind of a busy day for some teams as the rest of MLB brace themselves for the Mitchell Report which is expected to be released sometime tomorrow.

I found it very ironic that the Orioles finally traded Miguel Tejada on the eve of the report’s release date. Tejada’s name has been mentioned on more than one occasion in connection with banned substances. Today he was traded to the Houston Astros for a boatload of prospects that included OF Luke Scott, RHP Matt Albers, Troy Patton and Dennis Sarfate, and 3B Michael Costanzo.

Now that Tejada has been traded, can Erik Bedard be too far behind?

Rotoworld tells us that Aaron Rowand has a new home with the San Francisco Giants, and signed with them for $60 million dollars over five years. Damn, that sounds like a lot of money for a player with his skills set. I’m glad the Mets never barked up that tree.

Not to be outdone, the San Diego Padres signed Jake Peavy to a three-year, $52 million extension through 2012 with a club option 2013. So much for those fantasies of him becoming a free agent and the Mets outbidding the world for his services. (As if that ever had any chance of happening.)

Here’s a roundup of the rest of today’s moves…

Andruw Jones signs with the Dodgers for two years at $36.2 million dollars.

Kosuke Fukudome inked a 4-year deal with the Chicago Cubs for a reported $48 million dollars. Wow, are salaries out of control or what??? Carlos Beltran is looking more and more like a bargain lately.

Second baseman, Tadahito Iguchi signed a one-year deal for $4 million dollars with the Padres.

As for the Mets…

No signings, no trades, no nothing… in fact by the time this night is over we may have non-tendered the recently acquired Johnny Estrada.
