The Mets are expected to sign outfielder Simon Juan when the 2022 international free agency period begins according to Baseball America. Juan is expected to receive a bonus around $2 million.
It’s important to note that these deals in the international free agent market have been worked on and in most cases, agreed upon years in advance.
BA ranks Juan 14th in the upcoming IFA class and has him as the top player the Mets are expected to sign. The 16-year-old is ranked fifth among outfielders in the class and would instantly become one of the Mets top outfield prospects.
Here's the Mets top expected signing for the upcoming international free agency class, outfielder Simon Juan.
His power/speed combo has produced comps to Byron Buxton and George Springer.

As you can see in the video (and noted by scouts), Juan is a right-handed hitter that has shown significant power potential to this point. You could see that power potential become even greater as he likely fills out his 6’2”, 165 pound frame. The right-handed hitter and thrower trained with former big league shortstop Rafael Furcal.
Juan has plus speed which means he could stick in center field long-term even if/when he gets bigger. His speed and power potential has drawn comparisons to the likes of Byron Buxton and George Springer by some publications.
Given trades in recent years of multiple high draft pick outfielders, Juan would be a huge boost to a Mets farm system that desperately need high-end potential at the position.
