With Baltimore, the Orioles made the playoffs three times. Jones says Showalter brought a name and immediately lured big-time players to the Orioles like Derek Lee and Vladimir Guerrero.
“He never harped on any situation except play the game hard,” Jones said. “You can’t control everything. Mental mistakes he couldn’t tolerate because you should always be prepared for everything. I think he’s going to add an accountability factor.”
Showalter signed a three-year contract to manage the Mets. They are hosting his introductory press conference Tuesday at 1 p.m.
