Syndergaard Noah

The New York Mets (54-50) defeated the Colorado Rockies (52-53) by a score of 6-4 this afternoon at Citi Field.

Pitching:

Noah Syndergaard got the ball for the Mets today, looking to get New York back into the win column and salvage the final game of the series.

Thor gutted through six innings and labored through a ton of pitches, but still tossed a quality start, going six innings allowing three runs on six hits, while striking out six and walking two.

Syndergaard was forced to settle for a no decision, as he left with the ball game tied. Jerry Blevins was next in line to relieve Thor, and surrendered the go ahead run in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly from Carlos Gonzalez.

The Mets got three runs back in the bottom half of the seventh to make Blevins the pitcher of record, as he improves to 4-1 on the season.

Addison Reed had a shut down eighth inning as per usual, and Jeurys Familia started a new save streak, pitching a quick ninth and recording his 37th save of the campaign.

Offense:

First and foremost, I’m going to say that it’s fantastic to have Neil Walker back. No, he hasn’t been injured, but his bat had gone silent for an extended amount of time. So much so, that no one thought he’d come out of it.

That is behind us in the past now, as Walker is white hot and drove in four runs today, the first coming in the first inning as Walker got the Mets on the board first with an RBI triple.

Unfortunately for the Mets, this meant losing Asdrubal Cabrera who strained his patellar tendon rounding third base and had to be escorted off the field by the Mets training staff.

In addition to Walker, Alejandro De Aza – yes you heard me correctly – Alejandro De Aza is starting to heat up as well. The veteran outfielder chipped in a run of his own with a RBI single in the second. It seems like De Aza is just getting on base every time he’s up now. Let’s hope he can keep it up!

Brandon Nimmo drove in a run in the third, but the big blow of the game came in the seventh inning. With the Mets down 4-3, Neil Walker blasted his 17th home run of the year, a three-run shot that would give the Mets the lead for good, as they were able to salvage the final game of the series from the Rockies.

On deck:

The Mets will start the Subway Series tomorrow at Citi Field, with Logan Verrett (3-6, 4.12 ERA) taking on CC Sabathia (6-8, 3.95 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM.
