Neil Walker spoke to reporters Wednesday and said he has resumed baseball activities and is in the beginning stages of running.

“If the next several days go well we might progress a little more. If I’m sore, we’ll back off. There is no timetable,” Walker said. “It’s all dependent on how things go in the weight room and how things go with the strength and stability and then we’ll see.”

Walker, who has been out since June 15th with a partially torn hamstring, took ground balls and batting practice before Wednesday’s game. He will work up to running full speed which he expects to be the toughest part of his return.

The New York Mets today announced that Mets second baseman Neil Walker was examined today at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, where he also underwent an MRI and was diagnosed with a partial tear of his left hamstring.

He received a PRP injection and will begin rehab immediately.  He has been placed on the 10-Day Disabled list and will be replaced on the 25-Man Roster by Gavin Cecchini, who has been recalled from Las Vegas (AAA).  Walker is expected to miss several weeks.

Walker is batting .270 with 13 doubles, nine home runs and 33 RBIs this season with a .820 OPS. He is owed $17.2 million this year and becomes a free agent at the end of this season.

Sandy Alderson told reporters that Amed Rosario is not an option to be promoted at this time because the current roster already has “some good players” the team will contend with.

“We do not see Rosario as a short term option. When we believe he can be promoted and stick longterm on the big league roster, then Rosario will be called up.”
