Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Major League Baseball full ownership group is scheduled to vote on Steve Cohen’s bid to purchase the Mets on Friday at 1:30 p.m. ET.
We still don’t know exactly when New York City mayor Bill de Blasio will hand down his decision, though he said the evaluation process is “coming close to completion.”

According to Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News, Steve Cohen’s $2.45 billion bid to purchase the New York Mets is expected to be voted upon by Major League Baseball’s other 29 owners on Friday.
Per Thosar’s sources, “just two owners were on the fence with one firm ‘no’ vote”, essentially ensuring Cohen will receive the necessary votes — 22, to be exact, since the Wilpons’ sale of the team already counts as a vote in Cohen’s favor — to take control of a 95 percent stake in the team.
New York City mayor Bill de Blasio still has to officially approve the transfer of the lease of city property, but, as per the mayor’s office earlier this week, a resolution is expected quickly.
As noted in Thosar’s report, there is “real fear” in Cohen’s camp that a delay in approval from the mayor’s office could result in a “competitive disadvantage”.
Taking into consideration Cohen’s presumed approval will coincide with the commencement of MLB’s offseason, as well as the many roster holes the Mets need to plug this winter, the sooner this thing is finalized, the better.
We will keep you posted with new information as it becomes available.
