With roughly three weeks left to the season, it’s anybody’s guess as to whether or not we will see David Wight suit up and take the field before the schedule runs out of games. And while Mets ownership via Interim GM John Ricco keep dousing out any hope for a David Wright comeback this season, the captain and the best position player in franchise history has a different opinion on the matter.
On Friday, when asked if he would play in 2018, without any pause or hesitation Wright responded yes. “I want to play and understandably, there are some hurdles we have to clear before that happens.”
Wright is expected to play in another simulated game on Tuesday, after which he will meet with COO Jeff Wilpon to discuss the final step to his comeback – a return to the Mets roster. The hope is he gets the green light to play, but given it could cost the team roughly $2 million dollars, Wilpon could just as well crush Wright’s dream of a comeback in 2018.
