According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, New York Mets starting pitcher Jason Vargas will be placed on the 10-day disabled list with a strained calf and Chris Flexen will be called up in his absence.

Vargas, 35, was scheduled to start tomorrow’s series finale against the Dodgers. In nine starts this season, the veteran left-hander has an 8.60 earned-run average with a 2.29 strikeout-to-walk ratio and a 44 OPS+.

Vargas broke the hamate bone in his non-throwing hand in Spring Training and has struggled to find a rhythm since.

Flexen, 23, has an 11.57 earned-run average in 2.1 innings of work this season with the Mets. He owns a 5.43 ERA at Triple-A Las Vegas in 58 innings.

As per Lindsey Adler of The Athletic, Mets’ manager, Mickey Callaway said Vargas injured himself while doing conditioning drills the other day and that they were not sure who would start tomorrow’s game.

We will keep you posted as more information becomes available.
