The Minnesota Twins have an agreement with free agent designated hitter Nelson Cruz according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.
Jon Heyman of FanCred Sports reports that it’s a one-year deal with an option for 2020. Cruz will get $14.3 million in 2019, and his 2020 option is worth $12 million with a $300,000 buyout.
Cruz, 38, was originally signed by the Mets out of the Dominican Republic in February of 1998. He was traded by the Mets to the Oakland Athletics in 2000 for Jorge Velandia.
The right-handed slugger hit .256/.342/.509 with 18 doubles, 37 home runs and 97 RBI in 144 games for the Seattle Mariners in 2018. In four seasons with the Mariners, Cruz hit .284/.362/.546 and was a three-time All-Star.
Cruz is the third bat the Twins have added this offseason in addition to C.J. Cron and Jonathan Schoop.
